Haha chookchick (WIMPS)LOLOL. We live in the swamp.Dig 6 inches and you hit the water table!! This has been the wettest winter we've had in 30 years.During the summer due to our extreme high humidity,we have thunderstorms practically every afternoon starting around 2 or 3pm and continues til about 7pm. And that's not associated with any warm or cold fronts neither lol. Then there are the tropical storms and depressions to deal with (no hurricanes yet,thankfully.)My coops are up on stilts 4 feet high.My hens sleep high and dry every night and I've tarped over the top of the chicken wire to keep their feed dry. They like to get under their houses when it rains or get close to our house under the eves to stay dry.
 
Swamps???? Never heard of them.

I just like the way my house looks 8 feet up in the air like that.
When I selected my coop site, I choose it because of 2 small slabs we had, which had formerly been used for dog kennels, so I knew the chickens would have a 4 inch retreat in the event of a sudden downfall. We also used a grating to connect the 2 slabs so that we could easily walk across, which I imagine also gives the chickens additional dry 'land' to walk. It can still get really messy, which is why I am constantly importing leaves and needles for them to have their own carpet to scratch in. Keeps them clean.
I use broken pieces of concrete around the edges of the coop for safety from preditors and so I won't trip on them, but I would think the chickens can use them in the event of slightly high water.
Now if it gets too high, I would have to go out and rescue them and put them in a shed or playhouse, which I do keep one clean. That is a very real threat. But you really have to have some kinda protection from high waters if you live in certain areas. At least get a dozen or so thick and wide stepping stones. Thats a quick fix.
 
rhoda_bruce, I bet you have to worm your chickens semi annually like I do. Also I have to fend off snakes,no gators yet (thankfully) lol. Big rains for us tomorrow too. The Okefenokee Swamp isnt far from us.The St Mary's river is just down the road about a mile. I mapped where you live, gosh, YOU ARE IN THE SWAMP LOL!! Do you have to beat the gators off your property?

Some people call animal control. Some get a high powered rifle and keep their mouths shut and feast on fried alligator or alligator sauce piquant. The towns drainage canal is directly behind my house and is about 9ft X 17 miles long. Have to keep the kids away from it in the summer. When it rains, we have to watch it because once it fills up, our yard is next and we have to make sure the parish has the pumps on. We have an awesome levee system.......we paid for it. Ya'll didn't. We made it......FEMA didn't. So they pretend it isn't there. We're mostly Okay. Just have to know where we are and bloom where we are planted. Cypress soaks up a lot of water, so I have about 100 of those in my yard. Keeps things cool and sucks up the water in a day or so, provided nothing is wrong with the drainage system. I think I can have chickens and other animals, so long as I have a few back-up plans. Ducks would maybe be better, but my husband finds them messy. They are really.
