Raised beds?

Yes we like our raised beds, we're older folks who don't like being on our knees..
The picture was not to display the raised beds so pardon the other items or creatures..
Our beds are 24 inches tall x 5 foot wide x 10 foot long.. They hold a TON of fill, so much fill that it isn't for the poor or small backyard.. Luckily the spent cow hay and any branches go in to add fill / compost.. If a person had to buy soil for these it would cost some serious $$.. We currently sit at 7 beds and 1 frame and plan on 15 beds

That's much of the reason I have raised beds - can't bend over so easily, so having them elevated makes everything easier. Mine are 16" tall. I did consider 24" but like you mentioned it's a lot of fill even if you buy soil in bulk. For filler I mostly used cheap soil (with a bit of hugelkulture in newer beds to help fill even more) and kept the quality soil on top (and bought in bulk cubic yard bags to save money). Composting more and more each year so I can amend the soil and keep it productive - thanks chickens!

I currently have my beds in on a boggy section of the lawn with cedar roots invading so for the sake of excluding further root intrusion, mole intrusion, and to improve drainage and overall accessibility, I'm moving them over onto a packed gravel side driveway immediately in front of current location. Hoping to get that all done this month (me and a shovel, ha).

OK. Here is my raised bed garden area:

Before we put the raised beds back, and built more.....we added 102 tons of dirt (4 truck loads) to level out the area.

Then we bought "garden soil" that was supposed to be good, but lets just say we are still amending it heavily.......

Building some new beds (they are 12" tall).

When adding dirt, we also added sand (and peat moss, and gypsum, and vermiculite, and perlite). Sand is what you see here.

We buy a truck load of wood clippings and spread it out all around the garden area for walkways, as you see here. The rest of the backyard (and all of the front yard) is grass. We do have grass around the two beds you cant see here - the are at the very southern corner of the yard - full, all-day sun - so tomatoes and peppers (maybe melons) will get planted there.

Come spring there will be several cattle panels put in use spanning from 1 bed to another which will trellis plants and add a touch of class to our backyard which is always changing, getting bigger and growing more..

Awesome! I wanted to cattle panels last year but then I never did. Maybe this year!

They add big time to a garden area.. added space, ease of harvest, walk under your produce.. They give a person creativity and productivity..

I have a cattle panel trellis I grow my cucumbers on. They are easy to pick and find.
