I ordered some vertical nipples to try for the chicks. That is why I would like something under to catch the drips and not soak the bedding.

Yes, when I introduced the nipple drinker to 25 chicks last year, all they wanted to do was play in the water drips. It was a mess, even with a catch basin with rocks.

We hang the water from a chain in our coop. Just high enough that they can drink from it. Bedding will sometimes get kicked into the tray when they're vigorously foraging in there, but the water doesn't get buried any more

Yes, once I moved the squirts outside I put the bigger feeder in with them. They turn into little pigs at about 3 weeks old.

I raised my chicks waterer on a variety of containers. It helped some until they figured out they could flutter their little bodies on top of the bottle and poop in the water. I may have to re-think brooding again.

I use rubber livestock bowls too in summer and winter. Up on bricks. They don't poop in those.

Maybe it's just my chickens, but I bet they would either poop or kick dirt in them too. It's what they do!

Go with Horizontal Nipples!

I was under the impression that horizontal nipples are to hard for new chicks. The waterer will have both Horizontal and vertical nipples. I love the horizontal nipples!!
