I love it when the grands give us a little insight into what it must have been like for us to first figure out the stuff we now don't even think about! When Katie was 8 and our chickens first started laying, she and I were going to be make scrambled eggs for breakfast. It was the first time we'd accumulated enough eggs to make enough for 3 of us. While I was getting some ham chunks chopped up to add, I put Katie in charge of breaking the eggs into a bowl. I told her to first break each one into a little saucer before she added them to the others. I looked over and she had broken them all into one bowl, had the bowl full of eggs at the sink, and was running water over them, swishing them around with her fingers.
"Katie, what are you doing?" She looked up at me as grown up as can be and said,
"Didn't you say we had to wash the eggs before we used them?" Um, yeah, I guess I did. <sigh>
