Raising Pigeons

Ive got some house pigeons, and archangels. Any sexing tips on them would be great. I know the males strut and coo, but sometimes it is hard to sex them.

At the risk of being corrected i will give an answer.

Pigeon males will coo and prance in a circle and the female will nod her head and flutter her wings as if she is saying i hear you.

The males are always loud and showing off makeing all kinds of noise.

The female are generally very quiet and not loud like the males.

A male will also go to a corner or nest if you have one and sit and blow out his chest and do a little growling noise. The female will join him and she will put her head next to his and flutter her wings.

My fantails when they are mateing do a sort of pigeon waltz it's very entertaining to watch.

See I was told that by the breeder I got the house pigeons from. he said the brown and white one was the male, and the brown and the grey one was the femals. well the grey one has a wider pelvis then the b/w one does.

ive also been told by another person that the pelvis thing isn't always correct either.

oegblady and deerman, let's quit the sniping at each other and agree to disagree. If you can't be civil in your posts, then please refrain. Such behavior is childish and beneath you both.

You both have alot of experience in your own right. Share your experiences in an informative manner please.

Thanks

Please everyone, I am taking in all your advise. I know nothing about pigeons and I know I have a lot to learn and I will figure a lot of thing out on my on since I have the time to spend with them. I do know I can not let my original pair out. One was caught about 20 minutes from here while the other one was caught over an hour from here. My female is still sitting on her egg. I do not know if there are two or not. I haven't been out there in the last few days since I lost Sadie. Snakeman has taken care of all my animals. We don't have plans to race them but I do think it will be cool to take them off to see them come home. Any advice is greatly appreiated guys. I'm so hoping to have some squeakers though. I have no plans to sell any but I will keep the info for later down the road about the leg bands for marking them in case I get to the point where we do get to selling some. If you had asked me just a few years ago if I would be selling chickens I would have told you "Yeah right." lol Later

One more thing, the weather has been nice. We haven't had to lite our wood heater in over a week. Hopefully the weather will stay nice until I do get some squeakers. I'm so excited. I haven't named them yet. Hummm I got to come up with some really cool names for these cool birds. Any suggestions? When you have over 200 pure breeds chickens names get to be a hard thing to come up with.

Your decription on how the diferent sexes act is right on. I love to coo to the male and have him put on a show for me. My girl is still sitting on the nest so I have my fingers sooooo crossed. I can't wait to see a baby.

So glad i could help you
