What is dimension of those furring strips?

I don't know and I'm not home to look. Just ordinary furring strip from the home improvement store. I don't remember what we bought them for originally.

It's not critical -- the chickens don't care.

Some people don't put cleats on the ramp at all -- which works fine as long as the ramp isn't too steep.

Some people don't make a ramp, just stack up some concrete blocks to make steps.

I'd go at least 1/2" x 1/2" spaced at 4-6"(steeper the ramp, smaller the spacing).

I skipped cleats and covered my ramp with 1/4 inch rubber stall mat from a farm & ranch store. It works great! The ramp is 6' long x 6" wide and their door is 3' high.

This thread made my day, as I come from a long line of over-builders. Nothing built under weight constraints of less than 200lbs is even conceivable.

A chicken ramp that can survive a hurricane at least gives peace of mind with reliable footing.
