We had a clutch finish hatching on 2-6. All were active and healthy yesterday, today one died. No injury or pasty butt . I feel terrible. They are with the hen and the remaining 8 are doing fantastic( eating, drinking ,active). What went wrong? I'm afraid the hen may not be keeping them warm enough. Should I bring them all in (including mama )? Do nonvaulted still have the same risk as vaulted (head injury)? We live in a rental until we buy , so this would be very risky and dl (we've actually done it once before ).

There’s many things it could be. It’s so sad when a chick dies but it happens to even the most experienced breeders. I currently have some vaulted chicks but don’t have previous experience with vaulted breeds so I’m not sure whether they are more susceptible to injury. Best of luck with your other 8.

Sometimes some just don't make it...if the rest are fine, just leave them outside.
