Rant about Euthanasia

I have a 14 year old dog right now. He is active and still enjoys his life.
I know at some point soon though in the next year or so i will have to make a decision. If some medicine helps by all means, buy it.
He is at the end of his life cycle, your dog and mine.
Just Love and enjoy them while you can.
Love is also doing the hard things at the right times for our pets.

I am a Christian. I know that God created man above animals. He gave us dominion over the Earth. No, I would not put an animal's life above a human's life.
It's just the thought that a life doesn't matter in comparison to YOUR wants...

I understand that there comes a point when the only kind thing to do is put the animal down. This, like I stated in my post, is when they have no will to live any longer.
I have experienced death in many aspects of my life. I have come to understand loss and grief and acceptance. Everything born is going to die.
What I'm saying is that if you had a way to treat the pain, why wouldn't you?
Ginger is a fighter. She's gone through and overcome a LOT in her life. There is still so much fight in her.. so much life in her eyes.. so much love left to share...
It would be hard to let her go, but I know that soon will be her time. Now's just not it.

Not trying to talk bad about Mom. She has very different opinions on animals than me. Ginger is a very special dog to Mom, but I think she is seeing it as "she's going to die, let's just do it now and end the pain" and not understanding that the pain is TREATABLE. This is causing me a lot of anxiety. I do not condone or stand for this.. She's not trying to be bad or mean, but she doesn't understand how I feel. She's not trying to understand Ginger's feelings either..

Thank y'all for listening. This has been pressing on my heart for some time..

Would you kill your elderly family member because they inconvenienced you? Or cost you money? Or because you don't want to take care of them anymore?

In a number of countries, they do euthanize older folks who are inconvenient or a drain on the family finances. In the U.S, there are several states where assisted suicide is legal.

Many years ago, we had to make an "end of life decision" for a relative that was being kept alive by a feeding tube. Thanks to her having signed a Living Will years before, we knew her opinion, but it was still a very painful choice to make. Her body was capable of little more than breathing at that point, but it still took her several days to die.

What a pet means to you is a personal thing. If you can make their lives better and can afford to do so, great, but you have to decide for yourself what is the right choice for you and your pet. If you are lucky, the pet will take the choice out of your hands, and you can mourn their loss without the guilt of thinking it was too soon.

Ive noticed in my experience that vets consider cost effectivness versus treatment a lot of the time. When ive taken our pet to the vet for vomiting they gave me treatment options and cost then left it up to me to decide the course of action. The only reason human care is different is because they dont do this. They assume you want whatever is necessary and treat until you refuse treatment. I wish doctors were more like vets in this case. To be left with a huge doctor bill you cannot afford is unfair. While i disagree with euthanasia i can understand how it might be a necessary option for those who cannot afford the proper care for their animal. You could argue that it should then be given to a family that can afford the treatment but very few people would bother themselves with that burden.

I'm very sorry for your loss.
This is exactly what I'm talking about. In the circumstance that it is in the person's, or animal's, best intentions. That is a very hard decision, but sadly, the best one for all parties involved... I would hate for a person or animal to suffer unnecessarily. I would end their life at this point.
But when a person is fairly healthy, but struggles with mobility and pain, you have many treatment options. Ginger's medicine would not cost much if it would be kept up. One exam-fee, and then you have a certain number of refills before you go back, if we even have to go back. It's no complicated process.
In my opinion our 2 seniors would benefit immensely from a bit of medicine. There's no point in going further than that. But it wouldn't be a huge burden to pay for a prescription.
I'm seriously just going to get over it, make them an appointment, an get them medicine. I am not going to watch them be in pain when they could live a much more normal life.

They are both living and breathing beings. Except the difference is that one contributes to the mass destruction of the environment.
And one has a soul and has an after life and the other goes to compost

Anyways, I'm gonna leave this thread before I cause chaos pandemonium

I find offense in this statement but will keep my response chill.
My belief is that both animals and humans have souls. Neither goes to heaven or compost. Instead, our souls are 'recycled' in a way into new bodies that could be animal, plant or human. Therefore, we are equal and should be treated as such.
