Because when I open carry, people see it either as a challenge (betcha I could take that gun away from ya before ya could aim it, here, lemme show you) or as a threat (omg that person has a gun, quick, hide the women and children!).

But by having the gun inside my coat, I don't have to deal with people whose fragile minds just can't handle the presence of a gun without going all stupid.

but unless you are A) hunting or B) on the way to the range for practice (in this case it should be locked in a secure carry case)... why do you need to carry a gun? is your supermarket that dangerous?

More robberys, shooting, kidnapings an rapes happen in the parking lot of walmart than you would ever beleve. There was a shooting in a chirch resently an it was armed people in the chirch that stoped it. Same with a mall on the news lately. My comunity is safe an has low trafic but I still ware a seatbelt.

There is such a huge culture difference between Canada and the USA when it comes to the gun topic.... I dont think I will ever understand it

i think it also boils down to the individual person as well

Me: I walk with my head high... I walk with confidence... I am not afraid to walk the strets of my town or the streets of Toronto where I was born and raised, unarmed... but I am not stupid about it either... i dont go looking for a fight...

my sister on the other hand wont check her mail without her pepper spray anhdy cause you never know there may be a rapist lurking behind her mail box... she is afraid and you can smell it... in turn she raised my niece to be afraid, mu niece used to carry a knife until it was taken from her one night and used to scar her right shoulder as he was attacking her.... there is nothing like giving your attacker a weapon to use against you

Many people living in the states don't either, so it's ok.

Here the most dangerious place in the city is the parking lot of the community college. Last year there was several assaults on campus, and unfortunatly the childhood Ed building (where nearly every student is female) is on the backside of the campus across 2 sports fields and parking lots from the rest of the buildings.

Collages an schools as a whole have the most violance comparitavely than most other public places. Both of which have the strictest weapon rules. People like to commit crimes where they are the least likly to have people fight back.

I disagree that the "strict weapons policy" on college campus has much to do with the crime rate on college campus. It would be la lesser cause compared to the following factors: The bigger reasons for high rates of college campus crimes are:

1. Acessability. Very easy to access any college and blend in.
2. Easy to lie in wait. Most campuses are sprawling with huge parking lots and lush landscaping to hide in.
3. Quantity of potential victims. Lots of "opportunity" to commit crimes. Lots of unlocked cars to rob, bags left on tables to steal,
lots of girls walking alone in dimly or non lighted parking lots.
4. General false feeling of security/lack of vigilence and innocence of people in young adult age group/lack of judgement.
5. Drug and Alcohol abuse on campus, making more people open to crime.
