I just don't understand why we should even subject ourselves to random violence. We have the right to LIFE, liberty and the pursuit of happiness according to the constitution. Most random acts of violence are worse than non random acts. I have to politely say No thanks!

Yes, but I am saying most people experience the same odds of danger unless they have particular issues in thier lives, which I put in my post. Life has a general risk of things happening to you. (cancer, robbery, lightning, being born in a 3rd world country...etc)

Ah, well I have experienced the recieveing end of violence from family. My father was an alcoholic moron that beat me WITH A GUN...go figure! For cryin out loud, I think I NEED a gun(he still lurks)!! The cops show after the black eye/ bloodied nose/threat of death etc. etc. Others have the same right though. I have just decided to not be a victim anymore. Rather than carry the "victim mentality" around I'd simply rather do something about it. So far since politely being told my intentions he has yet to act stupid again. Deterrents are wonderful. I wouldn't kill anyone without being forced to choose between myself and them, but I like having the choice instead of leaving it to them.

This thread is about opinions, not personal arguments, just agreeing to disagree without being disagreeable, when needed.

I have been mugged 4 times, been robbed twice- once I got home to find 2 men still in the house, while my ferocious 80 lb. dog wagged himself silly.. That is why I have pepper spray and loaded guns stashed here and there now.

As far as keeping them unloaded, locked in a cabinet, it just wouldn't make sense. What DOES make sense is to carefully conceal them so no one else can find them, and be as safe, well trained and responsible in their handling as possible.

It is quite interesting to see the range of opinions on the subject. The majority seem to favor gun ownership, even concealed carrying, but that is their choice, as it is a choice to not carry or even have guns around.

We have gotten several reports on this thread and the Staff is keeping a close watch on it.

So far it is a great discussion and little action has been taken on the reports.

Good job on the civil nature so far. Thank you!

Remember, two sides to every story and everyone has their own choice. It's not up to us to impose our choices on others and while they have to right to voice their own opinions we do not have to follow their choices or opinions and we shouldn't argue with them over it either. Just say "OK, that's your choice, not mine" then drop it there.

I have never said anyone should not carry. Please re-read my post if you are confused. probability is the liklihood of something occuring. If you read carefully, I said that barring certain risk factors per individual, most people carry the same level of risk for being a crime victim.

I have an honest question... directed at anyone who may know... this question is meant to educate myself and not start a innuendo throwing contest.. (ok disclaimer out of the way...lol)

what is the process of obtaining a CC permit?

is there psychological evaluations?
is there just a course that you have to take and write an exam at the end?

I am assuming a criminal background check... thats a no brainer...lol

do they have to be renewed?.. and if so whats the process?
