Um, no, sweetie, it was and STILL IS so WE THE PEOPLE could have and DO have the right to protect ourselves against OUR goverment in case it should, or has, grown too big for its britches!

I believe that ship is pointed out toward the wide open sea...not sailed...YET, but pointed in that general vicinity of being WAY "too big for it's britches." Oh and Rosie...ya gotta consider the source...she's hillariously and consistently uninformed!

I can't afford the darn ammo for any of them right now. I'm stocked up, but won't be any sport shooting going on. Them bullets is for food!! I haven't had to hunt this year anyway, processed about 4 deer from family giving them to us!!

How many of our "hunting" rifles started out as military ("assault") rifles. Quite a few M1s were sporterized after WW II, 30.06 right?

I've noticed that there seems to be some commonality of opinion based on "culture". Urban versus rural mostly.

One thing to remember is that we (the USA) is made up of different states that have different laws and requirements. What applies where you live may not apply where someone lives. Then throw Canada into the mix and add in our friends from the UK and the Republic of Ireland.

Boyd, I agree whole heartedly! As boys growing up, my oldere brother and I were told to stay away from the guns in the gunrack on the wall and away from the box in Dad's closet. We knew what was in that box and we never went near it! Because Dad made sure that we knew that it wasn't to be messed with! Our Dad died on Fathers Day in 1997. The next day, Mom asked us to get the guns out of the house for her because since Dad was gone she didn't feel safe with them there. My brother and I went to the bedroom closet and while he got the box out of the closet, I got the keys out of Dad's dresser drawer (where they had been for my entire life!) and brougt them to my brother. I tried to hand them to him so that he could open the box and he refused to take them! It turned out that Dad's warning had worked very well with both of us! Neither one of us wanted to open the box because Dad had alway said to stay out! After much fussing between us about who would open the box, we finally unlocked it and opened it up so that we could take care of them as Mom had asked. Just for your information, my brother had retired from the Navy after more than 20 years at this time and I was 44 years old! Don't tell either of us that children cannot be made to stay away from firearms! I know that it can be done!

Tn also has good open carry laws.

Just don't carry a baseball bat in your car for protection. I't against the law. the test for a permit is not hard, just common scence. and if you know how to shoot the test is not hard. so get a gun permit amd take the baseball bat out it will get you arrested, and a gun permit (and gun) won't marrie

I've yet to hear anyone give me a good reason why they need to own such a weapon. Frankly, I'm hard pressed to even justify them for military purposes.


If you intend to have a gun, you better be able to reasonably control where each and every bullet ends up. If you can't, you have no business having the gun.


I don't really think civilians need to own long-distance sniper rifles, and I am perfectly happy with a blanket ban on anyone owning an automatic weapon.
