Mistakes are part of human nature. Forgive and move on, don't let something like this ruin a marriage. It is a mistake on both parts, so don't push it. Very sorry about the loss.

You can not say will 100% certainty that the chicken would have lived had she checked them. You also can not attribute the death to lack of water unless we open the bird for a necropsy. While 'fact' we were given can lead one to assume the lack of water killed the animal we do not have the appropriate evidence from the chicken itself.

i do agree to a certain extent. HHand, you didn't need to go back and take that out. i just think, changing the wording, from "would not be" to "may not have been". Since, she may have been able to help it if she had been able to check it. It may not have been dead yet, but it could have had a fighting chance. That is something we and OP may never know. and that's what's so hard about it. Personally, *I* would have just gone and checked on them myself, no matter if DH said "NO!" but thats me

i give the OP hugs. been there done that. don't beat him up and don't beat yourself up. mistakes happen. hopefully it doesn't happen again. if it does.. find a new hubby

As far as Zoe's health, they were all perfectly healthy the night/day before. They did have a mite problem a week ago which I treated with Sevin, Poultry Lice Powder on the birds, and a Permethrin dip on their feet. They should not have still had any mites. But if they did, would that make the lack of water much more of a problem?
Also- I have no rabbits. Just a rabbit water bottle in the pen to keep them hydrated. No rabbits on my whole farm. Here are pics of the pen:

I know what it is like to lose a favorite chicken but I wouldn't be too made at your husband. After all you married him for all his good qualities and everyone is human. But then again what do I know I'm only a teenager.

Here we go with the husband bashing again!

While I'm sorry for your loss and sorry your husband didn't do what he was supposed to. You don't say what his response was to what happened or whether he is the type of person who would maliciously do something like this. Could it be there wasn't enough water to begin with? My birds are drinking alot these days. Only you know. Apparently for some only men screw up.

He says he feels bad about it, but I am still hopping mad. I feel like he owes me some new birds or a $1,200 jellyfish pendant I've been wanting on eBay. I just feel he owes me.

It's hard to lose a favorite pet. Mistakes happen. It's the LYING and not letting her check up on him that is the REAL issue. Not saying divorce the guy or husband bashing. But I would definately read him the riot act about LYING.
If he lies about this, what else is he lying about? I'm sure there IS more.

I'm sure Spring Creek realizes she is also "dumb" sometimes. We all do. and a lot of us compain about DH's.. i do.. but I DO love him. and i DO know he's a great guy as well as making some mistakes. i just roll my eyes. i know im not perfect. i know you're not perfect, no body is.. and no one is saying they are. i don't think it's bashing, saying that they have made mistakes. leaving the pheasant door wide open, mistake. forgetting to open the chickens and having two or three die from the heat and/or dehydration, mistake. what im saying is, we all make mistakes. not everyone owns up to them though.
