RANT NPIP!

My State Vet combined the trip with the testing for the local fair, so he was already down here. The swab tests for Newcastle and AI were free. He's coming back this month to do the blood testing on all the adult breeders... I'll let you know how it goes.

Smith2 glad your testing went smoothly I may have just got some misinformation when I called about testing here in Tenn. When I called about the testing I was lead to believe any birds added would need retesting regardless of prior testing. Thought that was a bit redundant but with it being a goverment agency I just assumed it was a way of getting a few more fees. Maybe I just talked to someone who had gotten up on the wrong side of the bed. lol

Check with pips&peeps. She's posted a lot about dealing with the WA Dept of Agriculture. (and she hasn't had a very good experience) But she seems to be familiar with the process in our state.

The vet that came last Tuesday said that TN had made some recent changes in the way they are doing the NPIP stuff. So maybe not. Maybe the rules have just changed some. If the government and the states want people to participate in these types of programs they are going to have to cut the red tape and make it easy for the farmer. Although I am not making my living farming, I know many that do and they work from sun up to sundown and are just called "farmers." The government should never bite the hand that feeds it. That poor poster in WA is having a nightmare and she is trying to do the right things. The whole process is really simple, but add some red tape and then get ridiculous!!

Call them back and tell them that what they want to charge is excessive and you will not be getting your birds certified. That is all we can do at this point as it is too late to send a letter.

I would also call Andrew Rohrer at the National Level of NPIP and tell him they refused to test you. They refused to test several farms over the last few months as "they were out of money", but they cannot do this to be in compliance with Federal Regulations. His number is 770-922-3496.

I am hoping that the State will fall out of compliance and lose all their federal funding if we can get enough people to call and complain that they were refused testing in the last four months.

This will make the large egg and meat producers have a coronary and the State will have to listen to us.

Thank you!!! Will DO!!

I just stopped in to check the posts I've missed since my last visit. Fortunately I happened to catch this one. I wish this post would've been brought up a month ago. Jean, I, and others could've helped you.

I know Jean and I both sent letters to the Dept. of Ag. I emailed mine. The deadline for submissions/input was 1700, January 2nd but perhaps you can still email them and they will get it into the right hands for consideration. The worst that can happen is that they reply with, "Sorry, you're too late."

Here is the email addy to send your letter/email to: [email protected] .

I would suggest everyone in WA who owns poultry email them - that's all the folks on here and elsewhere. Get the word out!!! Just let them know that you weren't informed of any public hearings and want your voices heard. The last I knew, the had not made a ruling yet so while the $85/hour fee was being considered, it may be premature for the person to be telling you that it's the law now.

Let's bombard them with emails, letters, and phone calls. It just might make all the difference in the world.

Jean may still have a copy of her letter and be willing to let others plegiarize it. I still have my email and would be happy to forward it to anyone who sends me an email asking for it.

God Bless,
