RANT Why do people take on pets/chickens/livestock???

Ok, what occurred to me in Mass, this would be a significant health violation, the chickens may or could be confiscated, the man fined and or I am serious some jail time.

Also, you are a good person, no, you are not ranting, your story repeats itself hundreds of thousands times a day, and I live in southeastern Mass, and have been involved with shelters, and the Animal Control Officers who are also the health agents and have to do mandatory inspections at least once a year of all farm animals, barns, etc. SOO, our Animal Control Officers also do inspections when a neighbor or someone reports , violations of health codes, animal abuse physical or mental. If grounds are sufficient, it is handed over the Animal Rescue League and or MSPCA for more investigations and or prosecution.

You are a good person, and she is such a lovely chick.

Oh, I noted Apple cider vinegar, unfiltered, do you put that in her water?/ I drink it daily with honey.

I still think you did the right thing. He offered you the birds, you took one because it's what you could care for, you knew the girl was looking after the others and you checked on them to make sure that they're being cared for. When he returns from his trip ask him is he wants help finding homes for the rest of them then help him. Don't worry about being judged. Most people wouldn't reach out to a stranger and watch over them like you have this man. There are grown people incapable of making good decisions and that need someone looking out for them. This man does not sound as though he is a completely functioning adult. It doesn't sound like he should be caring for an invalid either. I know plenty here will disagree and I don't give a hoot. You are a decent person for helping this man, caring for him, and watching out for him. Many families can't be bothered and many "friends" aren't around for the tough times. You didn't steal the bird and you shouldn't turn him into AC either. Help him as you have been and be a good friend as you have been. I'm with you, I'd never ask for advice on these forums. People seem to have more compassion for animals than for their fellow man.

@ franklinstreetwest, What does being a Vegan have to do with anything? BTW, I'm not one.

Serious jail time ,yes I can see jail time for stealing chickens.
how would you know if it's a health violation? She said he cleaned it every two to three days.They also have food,water and shelter.heat lamp to boot.
So a GOOD person steals and a person that spends loads of money on 16 chickens is the one that deserves jail time?
Just what country do we live in ? Has our laws changed ?
A kid is taking care of the chickens so if the OP doesn't like the way she is takeing care of the chickens she need to help her .

There is a very important thing in your 2nd post...This scare me....bad enough he may not treat the chicken right.


He cares for a boy in a wheelchair.......he place a plastic bag over the boys head...letting him set in the rain.....you even said The boy was turning RED .....HOPE THE HELL YOU CALL SOMEONE ABOUT THIS........before he kills this BOY.

One day I went over there drop off some groceries for him & he had Paul outside in the rain in his wheel chair w/ a plastic dry cleaners bag over his head! The boy was red! I said Roger your suffocating him & he said back he is fine there is a hole on the top

If he can not care for the boy and the boy is in danger it is your moral duty to help the boy.

Like my DH said I should have never vented to an internet forum to be judged so as to make all yourselves feel better! Yes...I did ask for it but from now on I have learned not to put my business on the internet. Until you all are in my shoes, you will never understand what it is like to worry about him, his finances & NOW 17 chickens!

He over buys food like tomatoes & cabbage then throws it away instead of composting or feeding the chickens & I am sorry but I am NOT an idiot & any chicken can eat cabbage &/or tomatoes as a treat it it does not affect their laying or health!

WOW...having a hard time getting past this part. Hopefully you have reported him for neglect of the handicap boy in his care. I can't imagine what he is/is not doing when you aren't around... Do you even realize what you've posted??? You sort of just threw it in there between the not composting properly comment and some other random stuff your friend does that you don't like...​

Yes I almost missed it myself.........OP talk more about thje chicken and other thing about him.......GIVE a small very small section about him almost killing a boy.......Sorry this OP mind is in the wrong place.......lot more to worry about here than a chicken.
