I am using what I can get my hands on...
I am using some culls from hinkjc's orp project. When I get some lav pullets from my F1 crosses I will use a marans cock to help with egg color and conformation.....but need to start with the lav cock over the marans hens since that is what I have access to.....
I don't expect anything to be close to right until at least next year...
I have a lav ee pullet but with the pea comb it would wreak havoc on egg color, at least that is what I thought...
Actively promoting the breeding of pure bred
Marans.
Responsibly breeding birds that produce the
darkest possible eggs
Always educating its members and the public about the wonders of
the marans breed.
Never jeopardizing the health and welfare of the breed.
Seeks to gain full APA and ABA recognition for the
breed and its numerous varieties.
There is a difference between a cross breed that is simply the result of random matings or unplanned offspring and a cross that is the result of planned breeding with a specific goal in mind.
There is a recognised process for the inclusion of new breeds and varieties into the standard. BTW, marans are not a recognised breed, so as far as the APA is concerned they are all mutts.
