Rash-looking, lice looking vent area but no mites or lice???

I have about 5 older hens in my flock and for all intents and purposes their vents look like they have lice or mites. I have always put DE in their feed, kept the coop dusted, and I am VERY careful to clean nooks an crannies. To look at them you would swear they have an infestation so I took a magnifying glass out and inspected them head to toe and I can't see anything. Does anyone know what could be causing this and how to treat these poor ladies? They are separated from the rooster, so I know he isn't wearing them out but I'm stumped!! Thanks for any advice.

Can you share a picture of what you are seeing? My guess without a photo would be feather picking.

I can try but I'm not very good at this computer stuff (67 yrs. young)
