UPDATE SUNDAY AUG. 13, 2017
Wanted to share some photos from first thing this morning. I won't show you the 6 snap trap catches but one big mamba rat caught in the middle of my yard near our barn/workshop. the Snap traps were near the feed cans... they are gross!

7 less disgusting rodents less in my zip code.
I am assume hundreds left since we are surrounded by thousands of acres of farm land.
My free rangers are curious of my new prisoner.

BTW.. that is a jumbo trap that was set up to catch the coon that has been stealing dog food. That's why it was out in the open.

I won another battle in the Rat War, but the War continues long after this thread fades away....

PLEASE DON'T USE POISON BAIT!
consider building a barn owl nest box. Barn owls eat primarily rodents and will not harm chickens or pets l
We have Owls here that make footballs look small.
I have lost a half dozen new born piglets to giant owls.
We breed Pigs for income. When the owls eat my young, my pay check is much smaller. The last thing I need is an owl breeding ground. I already have an owl feeding ground.
For the first 2 weeks after piglets are born, hubby puts a baby monitor out by the birthing pen. When he hears the owls, the neighbors hear the 410 shot into the ground to scare them off.
I am sure your idea would work for other applications, just not ours.
Thanks for your contribution.. best regards, fc

Berkshire babies (1).jpg

This is piglet that was about 15 minutes old.
Perfect owl food. My husband has shot at mamba owls and these poor little tiny babies fall out of the trees while the owls fly off.

These are pure Berkshire pigs. Sought after for their marbled meat and flavor, by humans, and owls alike.
