The blades are sunk in to the wood with the sharp side pointing up. The bar would push anything in the trap down on to the blades.

Good to hear my work helped you. I saw that issue coming up over an over so I built one to do the videos an save people the headache an to save me typing out "how to"s every few days.

I have caught 3 that big so far an just watched another run across the floor while reading your post. I caught them on big sticky traps. Also caught about 50 smaller ones.

I have no issue with pet rats, heck I grew up with 2 pet gaters a pet raccoon an a a pet polecat but they ain't literally eating my house out from under me like these rats are doing.

Yeah Reb, you sound like you got your hands full there.

I've seen somewhere that someone has taken a rat trap, cut bout 1/4" inch off under "killer loop", and brazed some drywall nails on it, that was another nasty trap. But your's.....thats kinda scary, even for me...LOL..

I remember my pop talking bout having to nail the traps down so the rats wouldn't run off with them. I have a couple in my covered run, but nothin like your dealling with.

Good luck.

Ive had them run off with the traps so I understand nailing them down.. I thought about roofing nails but dont have any, I have a tin roof. I tried to figure out how to weld the blades to the bar but then how would I have set it.... It has been set off twice now an is holding together but nothing has been caught in it yet.

That is one of the scariest traps I have ever seen! It kind of reminds me of something from one of the Saw movies. I hope you catch him soon...the suspense is driving me crazy!

Good luck catching those rats. To see one run across your room... no, I would not be sitting there long enough to be typing out that message, I'd be at the nearest hotel. For good. I don't do roaches and I don't do mice/rats. But I'll take all the chickens you got.

Had a mouse in the house. While eating supper one night I see the little bugger run under the L/R sofa. I tell the wife grab a broom. We go into the L/R and I instruct her to whack the mouse as I lift the sofa and he runs out. Good plan I thought. I lift the sofa and the mouse runs out. Wife drops broom and jumps up on coffee table dancing and screaming like I had just smacked her with a broom. LOL. I think she sceered the heck out of the mouse as it has relocated to the barn.
