Rats as food

I'm not cooking rats for my chickens. I don't live in a swamp! (Shrek reference)

Soon enough I plan on cooking coons for my chickens. I'm not worried about diseases that every animal can carry.

Bacteria and viruses die when cooked or roasted properly.
But there are also pathogens that produce toxins, especially when stored for a long time at room temperature. I don’t know what these pathogens might be and if rats cary these. But it seems that chickens can eat fresh and cooked rat meat without any problems.

Wild mice can carry leptospirosis, just like rats.

THAT sounds like a fantastic idea. I could get down with that.

I chuck all dead animals into a bucket with holes drilled in the bottom. Maggots drop out the bottom. I've been doing this for years and my chickens love it

My Asil also catches rodents on her own with zero issues whatsoever

My chickens wouldnt eat a maggot lol or a raw wild rodent lol

I looked, but I've seen no threads like this. I have both a rat and racoon problem. I am using electrocution to kill the rats. I threw the dead rats in the raccoon trap and trapped 3 chickens instead! So, can I just give the chickens the rats? There's no poison in them. And I know they eat mice and frogs. Thoughts?

How did you electrocute them? I see one and ive set tons of traps and nothing.
