Rats, rats EVERYWHERE! ☹️

Hopefully, a predator whether feathered or not eating my sick dying poisoned rat will associate my property with sickness and leave.

While bird of prey nests might work in a vineyard it would not work around poultry as poultry is bird of prey food, grapes are not.

I have far too many birds of prey here. They are a bigger problem than rats. A couple weeks ago I had to run to town, when I returned there was an eagle in my yard eating a rooster. They are so numerous they have become emboldened. He did not leave the rooster until I was within 20-30 ft of it. I had a hawk hit the side of my house while diving for and killing a chicken. My chickens should be able to be safe 5 ft from my house.

So please excuse me if I don’t feel bad about a sick dying bird of prey.

That said, I use very little poison. I have lots of cats, enough to make any crazy old cat lady jealous. I feed them very little. Hungry cats kill!

Rats hate cat poop and urine smell.

I also encourage crows to live around here. My compost pile is about 200 yards from my coop. I leave offerings for the crows. (Eggs that we can’t eat) and they pick through the compost.

Crows and Ravens don’t eat chickens ( full grown anyway). They do help control BOP.

I trap mammals I don’t want here, live traps, Duke leg trap, jaw traps further from my cat area, along with conabears. I shoot coyotes, raccoons, fox and so forth on sight. I actively hunt them with predator calls.

Rats, mice, chipmunks and squirrels are a predator to me they want to eat my poultry feed. So they must die or move on. I am a tad kinder to the Grey Squirrels as they have a hunting season and taste yummy. Black squirrels get a pass as they are kind of rare I like seeing them.

I do not have a rat problem anymore, I became aggressive. I took in every cat I could find.

I have buckets of poison, I keep it incase a rat moves back here. No need to use it with a hoard of hungry cats around.

My birds will continue to free range and eat at will. Life is good.

Cats killed this one. Also I took up the poison because it was untouched (that was a few days ago when I took it up, not sure if I posted that yet). There’s also been several dead chipmunks in the yard due to cats. I guess feeding cats every other day helps some.

So was it determined if the infestation was of rats or some other type of animal?
At least you’re not seeing evidence of rats correct? So no food from storage being eaten?
Whoops! In that case—- I think it’s still rats? What I posted is a rat, correct? I’m not good at identifying rodents. :p The food in storage hasn’t been bothered at all.
