Hi
I need some predator help. Last evening I lost 3 of my month old chicks and 2 of my 6 week old chicks to a Raven. I hadn't even considered them as a possible threat! At least I assume it was a raven, when I looked out at the chicken yard there was a raven standing over the bodies of two of the chicks. The other three bodies were nowhere to be found, just a few feathers in the yard. The chickens have access to a coop and have a secondary shelter set up in their fenced in yard.
Any suggestions as to how to deter Ravens? Will they remain a threat once the chickens are full sized?
I hadn't noticed any ravens in the area prior to seeing one eating my chickens.
Our chicken yard is a bit too large to cover entirely with netting. I have attached a photo of our set up. Please excuse the mess, the coop is still under construction.
I live in Alaska if that helps...
