Raw diet for dogs?

There are a bunch of grain free dry foods out there. Dutch gets Taste of the Wild salmon mixed in with a little hamburger. He won't touch it otherwise.

There are a lot of foods now based on different protein sources like duck, fish, venison, bison, etc. Plus corn free, wheat free, soy free and more.

This site has a review of just about every dry food out there.

Raw is great but it does take work. More so if you have huge dogs.

Thanks for the links guys! maybe i can do a mix of a good grain free dry feed with some raw mixed in... It must be the grain thats bothering him, right?

Maybe, maybe not. It could be a particular protein like beef or lamb. You could have the vet test him or try him out on something relatively nonallergenic like duck and potato or something whitefish based.

Dutch's food is based on whitefish, salmon and smoked salmon with no grains, and still only 25% protein. Some of the grain free feeds are up in the 40% range. With a large breed puppy you need to be a little careful.

I fed Dutch raw for years. He still gets the occasional rib bone when he feels up to it. He never once needed to have his teeth cleaned. The vet thought I brushed them daily!

Unfortunately now they're worn down and he doesn't like to gnaw on stuff so it's dry for us.

thats another benefit of this..the bones clean their teeth, just like it would be in the wild...
