Raw Eggs, Anyone else do this?

When we were kids we weren't allowed to go in and out 20x a day- plus who wanted to be inside? It was much more fun to be outside with your friends! You had hose water or no water LOL! Our hose water was good though because it was from the well and was always cold. If it was too hot or raining you played board games or card games. Mille Bornes was our favorite card game

We lived in S.FL. in the middle of an avocado grove so there was never a shortage of trees to climb or things to do

Oh and I still let my kids lick the batter - but only if they get to it before I do

I don't think I've played Mille Bornes in 20 years!

Okay, now I know what I want to do on the next rainy weekend. Eat pumpkin bread and play Mille Bornes. With some homemade eggnog on the side.

Honey will not support botulinus bacilli, unless it can ferment = too low sugar content, too much moisture. If a sealed comb starts to ferment, I give it back to the bees with a few fork scratches across to pierce the cappings and they will move it thus reprocessing it. I put it on a shallow super under the brood box. Works every time. I only had this trouble when I overfed the bees and they scrambled to hog up the honey syrup provided before they had the spring build up in numbers. I found it weekened the hive too.

OK back to chickendom...Keep ducks and chickens away from hives, ducks especially will glutton on emerging bees. A ring fence about 6 foot around is good enough to keep the birds out. Ask me how I know..

I LOVE cake and brownie batter and cookie dough! DH thinks it's gross, so he won't eat it, but he doesn't object when I give batter to the kids. I feel it's safe in the amounts we eat, especially if it's my own eggs!

Here's an awesome recipe I got out of Top Secret Recipes (clones of popular foods.) Anyone remember Orange Julius?

Orange Julius Drink:
1 1/4 c. Orange Juice
1 c. water
2 raw eggs (or 3T pasturized egg white substitute, if you're scared of raw eggs)
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/4 c. sugar
1 1/2 cups ice

Combine 1st 5 ingrediants and mix until sugar is dissolved. Add ice and blend. Serves 2.

I used to love going to the mall and getting Orange Julius shakes, but the stores closed in every mall around me. I don't know if the original recipe used raw eggs, I doubt it, but the clone recipe does and it tastes great to me!

Sorry if I end up hijacking the thread, but do you think you can perverse eggs in the freezer? I'd kind of like to save Maple's first egg.

Yes, but you need to crack it open before freezing it. If you try to freeze it in the shell, the shell will crack (ever collect eggs in the winter?)

Preserving eggs: You can always blow out the egg to save the shell for a decoration, or (this works on quail eggs) leaving the egg alone in a dry room for months. The egg eventually dries up inside. Don't know if it'll work on a chicken egg since they're so much bigger, but it works well on tiny quail eggs.

Like just about everyone else that responded, I too have eaten a ton of raw eggs in cake batter, cookie dough, etc. As did my daughter...we're both alive. My mom let me and my brother lick the beaters and bowls, if we could beat my dad to them that is.
