raw milk...

gonzo&hispeeps :

Not sure where to put this? Idk, anyway, I was just thinking off the top of my head, and I was wondering if it's legal in the US to sell raw, unpasturised milk? And if it is legal, where can I buy some? I don't have the room for a milk cow of my own, maybe one of these days...

Oh my, my. Doesn't somebody like to just get it right out there? I've been 'being foolish' for some time now, and am thoroughly enjoying it. When your goats are healthy, vaccinated and tested for diseases such as CAE, CL, TB and Brucellosis, then there is no risk involved at all.

I urge everyone to do their reading on raw milk - find out the real facts. It's GOOD for you.

IMO - the store bought stuff has been so pasteurized, over-cooked and processed that it has no goodness left in it at all. That's why they have to add vitamins to it.

Wow - it's a wonder I lived to adulthood, considering we hand-milked our own cows, raised our own meat and grew our own food, swept up spilled wheat at the elevator and ground our own flour. We sold eggs and raw milk and traded them for the things we didn't have. We never realized how foolish we were!

Edited: Apologies to the OP for not addressing your question: It is legal to sell raw milk but it depends on where you are.

I agree, RoPo. I drink raw milk, eat cheese made from raw milk, and have never been healthier.

So many people have allergies now, and food intolerances, they often find that raw goat milk in particular is far more digestible than store-bought milk.

The state you live in depends on whether the sale of raw milk is legal or not.

The only reason there was a problem with milk 100 years ago, is becasue dairy cows were fed brewery swill and kept in confinement. The milk was toxic.
Sadly, rather then changing how the cows were fed and cared for, the practice of pasturization was put into law.

Today, raw milk is safer then pasturized, because those that sell raw milk, understand how to properly care for cows.
You are 2,000 times more likely to get sick from eating raw spinach, then from drinking raw milk.

All, and I mean all of the so called outbreaks of illness due to raw milk, have been proven false.
In every case, each person that got sick, had eaten at the same restaurant.

Fact: in all of mankinds history, raw and fermented milk has sustained him.
Industrialization came along, and changed all of that.

Did you know, that commercial milk is allowed very high levels of pathogens, including pus and blood form mastitis, where as raw milk, from pastured cows is not allowed this?
The industry believes that since they are cooking the milk, they do not have to worry about pathogens.

Stoooppppppppp.... blurgh. I don't wanna know. I, like so many people, drank store milk for years before deciding to take the future of my diet and health in my own hands by producing most of my food myself, be it eggs, milk or veggies. I don't eat store-bought meat because it grosses me out too bad.

I'll stick to the milk my little Nigi gives me. If that makes me foolish - then so be it

Thank You all... I've sent several emails and and waiting on a response about herd sharing. I'm glad its an option. I think it's a very wise choice to provide a healthy milk for my family!
