Rcom Suro King Incubator official thread ***HIGH ALERT***see post 93

Temperature question: I put a digital thermometer in the incubator resting on the bottom, and it reads 97.8°. The incubator is set at 99.5°. Is the 99.5° the temperature at the top of the incubator, and so such a difference is acceptable, or do I have a calibration problem? An almost 2° difference seems like a lot to me.

I'm going to set standard size eggs in mine (1st time since I bought it) next week. If they are standard size eggs...is there a problem with the slates?

I agree that 2 degrees is quite a bit different, although there all always cool and hot spots in all incubators. I run mine at 100.3 because I have had late and soggy chicks running at 99.5. I just prefer a tad higher temp. I keep a spot thermometer in the top vent (there are bottom vents under the bottom of the bator) to keep an eye on the temp and it is reads the same as the digital panel.

I used a spot check thermometer also through the vent hole and ran the temperature probe so it rest on top of the eggs...Mine read exactly what the incubator was reading...

I did run this hatch at 99.8 which was a tad higher than the last hatch...This hatch is going better but I think I would run it a little higher...Maybe one of these times I will figure it out!

I was wondering on the suro do I point the water feeder tube into the middle of the pad or on the outside of the pad going into the actual incubator? My pad is 8" by 2 1/2
inches...is this to big? & I don't wet the pad before incubating do I?

Thanks!

I think mine is toward the end of the pad and it holds the humidity perfectly.

Unless you are in an extremely arid climate I don't think the size of the pad matters all that much. My pad is about 6-7 inches long and only the very end of it stays moist during incubation and about 1/2 of it during hatching. And that includes increasing the humidity to 70% when I had a chick pip a huge hole and stay that way for way more than 24 hours. I upped the humidity to keep it from becoming shrink wrapped. Worked great and it hatched with no problems.

I did the same as Laura. I put a Brinsea Spot Check through the vent hole at the top of the incubator, and it read the same temperature as the incubator display, when it was level with the top of the eggs.

I think the prevailing wisdom on this board is that you check temperature at the top of the eggs.
