I sorta like having my feathers ruffled, just don't be tugging on them that hurts.

I agree... both here and other groups I belong to you do get this a lot...

Unfortunately, I am "New" here too... and I am sure what I am gonna say will ruffle feathers too... So I AM sorry in advance-- but she definitely got my hackles up.....

The fact that her 1st post said NOTHING of LOSING anything, let alone a Hurricane (um.. wouldn't that be your 1st point, unless trying to start something??)
This leads me to believe either she left this info out intentionally to make it seem she invested all that time and $$ to START the business (as opposed to repair damages caused by a disaster) in order to make her point about small farms costs -vs- her costs which at the very least, is, at best, misleading.

OR--

This post adding the info about the Hurricane and her losses is a sympathy ploy after getting so much negative feedback on her origional post...

Either way,She is being misleading...

I AM sorry for your loss. In these economic times, no Farmer, small business owner or Family should have to go thru that...

But to try to USE that to make small flock owners seem "guilty" for your loss.....???

Blame God/Nature/The Weather for the Hurricane... and YOURSELF for your lack of understanding the business workings before you got started.... NOT people (whom you do not know or live near) who are trying to help their friends, families and neighbors by raising their own and setting FAIR prices...

Trying to cast blame or find scapegoats is a form of psychological DENIAL for your own responsibility.... It will not make you friends, get you help, or build back your business--- that is up to YOU and your own work, effort and outreach.

I shall now turn over the pulpit to more worthy and learned members...

Well, yeah, but I'm not clear on how this pertains to *this* situation? None of the parties is Walmart or China. It is only a matter of *different* moms and pops competing

In one thread you complain about people selling their eggs too low so you can't sell yours. Now you say that you would make a profit if it weren't for a natural disaster, that your eggs are priced in line with others, and that you do have enough customer base. So why are you complaining? If you would have made a profit without the hurricane then you should be able to make a profit now that there isn't one without trying to get everyone else to raise their prices. If you have a large enough customer base then you should be able to sell all your eggs at the price you want again without telling others they need to raise their prices. Your posts contradict each other.

I don't think they meant any harm, just that is a matter of business competing with lower prices. And Wally World does compete with almost everybody. Maybe Volume just needed to get it off of the chest. Threads often slide off topic.

And I do think that the OP realized they made a mistake. It may or may not have been intentional, but no sense in becoming upset by it. I think she got the message, or at least should have by now. Being a new member myself and I know that alone just bothers some, and some it takes time to fit in. New does not make it anymore wrong or right.

WalkingWolf - we were ALL new once. That doens't bother me...it just seems like when you are some place new, whether online or in public, you ought to hang out a bit and make nice-nice rather than posting a potentially flaming post right off the bat. But, that's JMO.

I agree but sometimes a post can be seen as flaming to one and not another. I do admit I find her opening post leaning heavy to that side, but when one is upset and wanting to vent it happens. She probably would not be the first or last to do it. She apologized in another thread, though it should have been on this one, I am willing to accept that. But I understand your feelings just that sometimes when we get carried we look like the bullies. No offense intended I have slipped and did it myself and try to catch myself.
