I agree... both here and other groups I belong to you do get this a lot...
Unfortunately, I am "New" here too... and I am sure what I am gonna say will ruffle feathers too... So I AM sorry in advance-- but she definitely got my hackles up.....
The fact that her 1st post said NOTHING of LOSING anything, let alone a Hurricane (um.. wouldn't that be your 1st point, unless trying to start something??)
This leads me to believe either she left this info out intentionally to make it seem she invested all that time and $$ to START the business (as opposed to repair damages caused by a disaster) in order to make her point about small farms costs -vs- her costs which at the very least, is, at best, misleading.
OR--
This post adding the info about the Hurricane and her losses is a sympathy ploy after getting so much negative feedback on her origional post...
Either way,She is being misleading...
I AM sorry for your loss. In these economic times, no Farmer, small business owner or Family should have to go thru that...
But to try to USE that to make small flock owners seem "guilty" for your loss.....???
Blame God/Nature/The Weather for the Hurricane... and YOURSELF for your lack of understanding the business workings before you got started.... NOT people (whom you do not know or live near) who are trying to help their friends, families and neighbors by raising their own and setting FAIR prices...
Trying to cast blame or find scapegoats is a form of psychological DENIAL for your own responsibility.... It will not make you friends, get you help, or build back your business--- that is up to YOU and your own work, effort and outreach.
I shall now turn over the pulpit to more worthy and learned members...
