I know the mods have a thankless job most of the time.

Lately it seems there are more and more people posting threads that contain overly personal information. Things that probably do not need to floating around cyber-space for the world to see. It's not contained even to BYC....anyone can see and read, copy and save anything that is posted on this site whether they are a member or not. Are these things you want out there forever? If you're having issues in your personal life, post a thread asking for prayers and good thoughts, but leave the details out. If there are people you have grown close to on BYC take the details that you want to share to a pm or email.

Sharing every bit of your personal dirty laundry serves no purpose and could back fire on you once you post it on the internet.

Quite often I read a post and discover information about someone's personal life that I think shouldn't have been posted on an open forum. I realize that there are many people who have no other outlet and don't know where to turn. However, there are many indivuals on the site who, from reading their posts, are people that you could turn to for advice and opinions and still keep your personal life personal. Quite often I have had people pm me for advice and I have contacted others as well. This is a great community created by people working to help each other. Let's all consider if something could be better handled via pms rather than open threads.

Thank you Katy.

I think it would be very helpful for people to remember that their comments and stories are available to the WORLD, not just BYC. Also keep in mind that when you post on the internet, you welcome all readers to comment- whether they agree with you or not. They have every right to express their opinions, as do you.

The key is courtesy- the art of disagreeing without being disagreeable. I know I tend to shoot straight from the hip. If anyone wants to discuss anything further, please politely PM me.

I wish there was a rule that gave the mods power to penalize members who persist in posting overly personal posts and/or posts that are in poor taste. As of now it seems there isn't a rule so they can't be put in time out or banned. I use BYC as a social site too, but first and foremost I'd hope it would remain a poultry site. It seems the social is beginning to outweigh the poultry these days.

I agree, time outs would be a good idea! But then again...I might be on time out!

Of course if I stick to the chicken pages, find the talk mostly about chickens! If I don't want the daily drama of someones life I stay out of those threads. So, it is basically up to us on what we read and what we respnd to!

You are right in that no one makes us read them, but often it's like a car wreck.....even tho you don't want to look you can't help yourself.
