Ready for coop or not?

My chicks are about 4 to 5 weeks old (I'm guessing). I put them out in the coop today because this morning they were all pecking on the biggest chick, so I seperated them until I could get advice on what to do. So I moved them out and they are so loving it, but not sure if it is too cool at night and during the day. I am in Evansville, Indiana. Daytime temps right now are 60 and up and night time tonight is 40 or so.. What do ya'll think? Thankyou all!!!

I've heard the guideline that if chicks are 4-5 weeks old, temps at night should be above 50 before you move them outside. For 40 degrees, it's recommended you wait until they are 6 weeks old. Although if you wanted to move the chicks outside and keep the heat lamp on at night in the coop, that would be absolutely fine!

As long as they have a lamp of sorts(at this age they dont need a "heat" lamp) really any bulb will do, they will be alright during nighttime. They don't really need a lamp during the day. The chicks will be fine, Good Luck

I put my easter chicks out 2 weeks after picking them up. it was as low as upper 30's. i had a heat lamp and electric heater out there and the temp inside was down to as low as 50s but they were fine. they were not even under the heat lamp most of the time. it sure made their feather come in fast! as long as they have food and water they it seems they will be fine. that being said i did wake up early and check on them and late at night just to be sure.

WOW!! If this keeps going, the need for heat will be completely eliminated. Great, all the years of thinking chicks need a mom or a heat lamp are useless......Pop

Thankya all so much, I ended up putting a 60watt energy saving spiral light in there at 11 at night because when I went out they were all on top of each other, they had not went up in the box. So i put a tarp on the end that the wind was blowing in and then the light in the box and had to pick them up and put them inside. When I went to grab them they were so still, they normally run from me but they did not budge. I was worried!! Got them in there and they were happy. Woke up this morning, went out and they were all out eating.. YAY!!!

I was so happy they made it. Thank you all for the help and support, it means a TON..
