Hahaha ya well just a couple days into my very first bator full of eggs and I knew I was in trouble !! Lol we live in the country so no regulations

not good ....but when my husband heard I was getting 3 doz more eggs for the bator his eyes got big and says 3 more DOZEN!!! We're gonna have chickens running everywhere lol

Think of the Sunday cooked egg breakfasts!

Pam, that's more drumsticks and omelets than any family of 4 can poke a stick at!

We live in an urban area, limited to 6 hens, no roosters. kind of pushing things with 1 hen and two pullets (as of tomorrow that may change) in the brooder we have 6 chicks, at LEAST one rooster, possibly 3. Being followed with 18 in the incubator.....just because we have the laws does not mean I am abiding them lol.

We are kind of 'ignoring' the limit for now until our young birds are grown, sexed and healthy. Then we will know what to keep long term.

Might still be a wee bit over the 6 limit though. You know your in trouble when you start looking at bigger properties hahahaha For our company of course, nothing to do with wanting to keep roosters (wink wink)

My mottle japanese hen decided to go broody and jumped on a full nest of eggs laid by various bantam hens in my flock. Its funny how they don't care who the eggs belong to. They should hatch on my B-Day April 9th. Hopefully i get a good turn out aloth oc my hens are young and have only been laying a couple of weeks. Good Luck every one

Your gonna have lotsa babies !!!
How long does it take to candle all those !
I don't know about candling yet! This is my 5th and biggest setting so far. and the first one start to finish in my big redwood bator. I might have to candle in stages so I don't have them all out too long. But it only takes a couple of minutes to roll them all over; most I can just put the palm of my hand on them and gently roll them along. That might get harder if I put more eggs on the tray tho, they won't have a place to roll to.

I really want to put some eggs in my incubator but i have to resist!! I am moving in 2 weeks so i don't want to risk disturbing a bator full of eggs. I will rely on my little hen. She is a great mama. I'm in Louisiana so our laying season starts early. This is will already be her second hatch for the year. Her other chicks are 6-7 weeks old

I'm hoping to have a broody someday. So far none of mine have shown an interest, but the oldest ones just turned a year old. If any of my daughter's silkies hatch maybe she'll take the job next year. I do like incubating though.

I love to incubate also and it's hard to resist LOL reading all of your posts. I hope your Sikies hatch. Everyone says they are great broodies. I would love to add a couple of silkie bantams to my flock. My Jap hen is so funny with all the eggs. She stands over a laying hen and waits for her to get done and then positions the egg just the way she wants it. And gaurds the nest until she has just the right number of eggs for her. It's so easy to get addicted to chicken. I think its an illness LOL
