Ready Set Hatch! Set 3/17 Hatch 4/7 - ready now! Hatch-Along

I candled some randomly last night but my little LED light is having a hard time in the darker eggs, so far all the ones I've checked have been good as far as I can see. Ordered a much brighter light but it won't be here until midApril....

On another note I added 7 more Welsh Harlequin Duck and 30 more EE & OE to the bator.

I just wish the flash wouldn't wash out the blue and green so bad.

They are all doing well but maybe one or two. I forgot how many I removed lol. had a little mix up before I started incubating. I had my eggs for incubation sitting on the kitchen counter. My mom thought I had just collected them, so she put them into a basket we keep sitting in the kitchen to be eaten. So I saw what she had done and I took all of the ones I thought are my cochin eggs, and then some, just to be sure, I put the others in the incubator.. so I'm hatching buff polish rooster chicks crossed with gold sebright.. I wonder what they will look like

Mary - I bet those eggs are really pretty - my ee eggs don't show up either. I'm looking for a brighter flashlight too when I go to town today. My 78 lumens light sees through everything but the darkest eggs. I used the slide projector for the first candling but I'm glad I only paid $4 for it. It died. :(

Dylon - funny picture in my head thinking of that combination! I bet they'll be adorable!

I keep scrupulous charts and notes. Maybe a little overboard. I know today that the eggs lost an average of 7% weight, that's 4g avg. per egg. I started out with an avg of 59g per egg and am now at 55g on day 7. I'm going to add a little touch of water to the tray because that seems a little high to me. But it could be that two of the eggs that lost 9% of their weight are just throwing it off. And I still trace the air cells too as an insurance policy in case I lose my notes.

My hydrometer went out. Does anyone know if Wal-Mart has them? I went to buy one there and couldnt find one.

Walmart usually has the digital indoor ones over by the outdoor thermometers, but if its a probe type the hygrometer is only for "indoor" so the main part would have to go inside the incubator. Is there a tobacco/cigar shop near you? That's where I got my little dial type. I know it's possible to make one using a stick-type probe thermometer, a wick (cloth), and chart to read it - if all else fails! Let me know and I'll look for the instructions if you need.
