Ready Set Hatch! Set 3/17 Hatch 4/7 - ready now! Hatch-Along

Ok so the chickie that hatched is panting in there and holding its wings away from its body. My thermometer is only reading 97.5 right now and was reading 98.6. However the probe is at the bottom of the incubator and I'm afraid to open it and fix it...

Should I adjust the thermometer? Remove the chick? Or what?!

Hopefully we will both have some action tonight!!

Is the thermometer on a cord you can pull up? If not, maybe you can force the room humidity up (steamy shower method) before opening. If you have the next one zipping you could just turn the temp down a touch to compensate for the probe position. Once they are fluffed I aim for about 35C in the brooder, so a bit cooler should not hurt the un hatched ones, they should be developed now and just absorbing?

I had one pip last night, some time between 1 and 2:30 (could not sleep so I was reading in bed) No change this morning. However, Pam, it is #10! Hope it's some sort of positive sign for you!

Yeah I've got 7 pipped and one of those thinking about zipping (Donna!). I have my thermometer cord wrapped around the bottom of the bator so when I tried to pull it it was going to pull everything with it. The humidity is pretty high right now, 77% and my thermometer is reading 97.9. Temp is set for 100 on the bator.

It looks like it only starts panting when it exerts itself (trying to get to me, climbing all over). So I think I'll leave it for now.

DONNA IS ZIPPING! Haha

That's awesome! I'll take that as a good sign.
Hokankai - looking at your incubator layout, is it the water wiggler thermometer that's too low or is there another? If it's that one maybe gently pull the wire probe until it tips being careful not to land on eggs of course. I think I'd get a very fine water mister (think atomizer spray) with 100° water in it, open that corner trying to keep as much covered as possible and quickly adjust the thermometer. Probably leave the chick in there. Spritz water mist against the inner wall to bring humidity back up fast. Some people mist the eggs, not sure I'd do that. I'd do the steamy bath thing but too afraid to move the incubator!
