I hope this photo comes through. This was the first egg that Agnes the Ameraucana has laid. Was she egg bound? Will it happen again? Should I be concerned? Help, experts, help!

I don't think that she will be laying again.

You can see the egg inside the membranous material on the right.

yikes, I wouldn't be too concerned. Some pulletts just need a few tries to get it right. One of my Australorps, laid at least a half dozen shell-less eggs some with wierd tails before she got it right. Never dull...

I'm waiting for my hubby to come home and he will probably want to disect it. It appears to be a membrane sac like a kitten just born with a heavy egg inside. I have it on wax paper on my tablecloth. The membrane has a bluish tint, but the egg appears brown. She stayed in the nesting box off and on for the last few days, but didn't appear to be in any distress. I think it may be like an egg within an egg that I've heard about.

Nope, no blood anywhere. Not on her nor in the nest. She seems fit as a fiddle. She's eating and socializing. Her fluffy butt has whitish stuff on it. She's had that for the last day or so, so I thought is was just a milky discharge in relation to the strange egg. My optimistic personality says she just had a difficult first egg. Do you all agree?

Merry Christmas to all.
