really sick duck

I'm doing my best to get some high calorie and high protein snacks into her since she doesn't want to eat her feed. I figured out I can kind of annoy her into eating by repeatedly dipping her beak in a sort of duck protein shake I made for her so that's what I've been doing. I also have food offered to her at all times as well as water so I can at least tempt her into eating

This is better than nothing, good job working with what you have. This is a sudden and tricky situation. Do you have tube feeding supplies/do you feel like you would be able to tube feed? I think you can do it. Its scary to think about, but from what I've read I think its a lot simpler than it sounds with the right guidance. If you don't have supplies, try to get your hands on some. I'm sorry your going through this, I hope your able to get her on the mend soon! :hugs

so I have a maybe four or five year old pekin hen that's small ofr her breed which is why she's still alive and not meat. I came out yesterday morning to let out my birbles and I saw her laying in a corner and I thought maybe she was laying an egg so I left her alone. I came home and she was still laying in the exact same spot but when I went towards her she really stumbled at getting up but still managed to get up and walk. I have her quarantined in my garage at the moment so the other birds can't get to her, but when I came home today she was even more lethargic and didn't care what I did to her or protest. she's still drinking but is refusing all kind of food, even treats like shredded apple and egg. she's kinda raspy when she breathes and one leg is super swollen to like twice the size of the other one, it wasn't like that yesterday. Does anyone have any idea as to what may be wrong or how I can help her? I can't afford a vet right now. I did feel and look her leg over, nothing feels/looks to be broken or dislocated and she doesn't have bumblefoot. oh, and the weird thing is, the pads on her feet are really swollen too on that foot, I have no idea what may be wrong

Can you get a picture of her foot? And you said she has alway been small, right?

You can also put electrolyte in her water and that will help.

Yeah, it’s swollen all the way up to her body as far as I can feel through her fluff. And yes, she’s always been on the small size for a pekin duck as far as I know. She seems a tiny bit perkier this morning but she’s wheezing a bit more and hasn’t touched the food I left out for her. I’m not sure if she’s drinking because I’m at school all day but I do have to top it up in the evening so I believe she’s drinking. I noticed her down maybe four or five days ago and I isolated her as soon as I noticed

I did manage to get some liquefied food into her consisting of water, feed, egg, banana, apple, and oatmeal so it was a sort of calorie shake, I think I got about 40 ml into her by putting the syringe in the corner of her bill and dripping a bit into her bill at a time, which should hopefully be enough to give her some energy. she's a bit feistier this evening but when I managed to control her enough to get her between my thighs to feed her she was just limp and let me do it without much fighting. I'm not sure if that's a decent amount to get into her or not

Glad she's still plugging along. Do you have access to antibiotics?
