I hope that wasn't said sarcastically.....if so, that was a horrible thing to say. If not, I apologize.
I think the OP has a wonderful heart and it's definitely in the right place. God loves a cheerful giver and says that anyone who gives in this manner will have it returned to them in full measure, shaken down and running over.
It's really not about affording to help someone or not....when you see someone in greater need than you have, it should be just the thing you do. We came into this world naked and we will surely leave it the same way...until then, we are here to help each other along the way. I've often given away money I couldn't afford to lose....but it always works out that I could afford it anyway because God took care of me anyway.
I agree with the OP whole-heartedly....if you possibly CAN help, then you should. Bless you for trying to shine a light in the lives of these people...you never know just what your kindness will do. Enough kindness like yours can move mountains, change lives, change future events.
As for poor people not being able to own dogs if they can't feed their children....I agree that the children come first and one shouldn't own animals if they cannot afford food. BUT...imagine you have your family dogs and have had them for years...and you hit hard times. Could any of you bear to part with them? Could you just give them away to never see them again? What about when you got back on your feet....would you yearn for the dogs you lost?
Love is love, folks. I don't love my dogs more than children and would gladly give them up to save a child...but you don't often have to make that choice in America. There is always help out there for hungry children in this country if one only avails themselves of it....there appears to be more than just poverty in this home~I agree with the post about some psychosocial issues or drug abuse of some kind. Sometimes it is just a lifestyle carried down through generations and is normal to these people.
For the OP....may God bless your giving spirit and warm heart. I wish you lived in my neighborhood!!
