Received my box of dead chicks today :(

I am so sorry for your loss, and for everyone that is getting boxes of dead chicks. We have an order from McMurray for the 18th of February and I'm really nervous. I think I've called them five times now to ask questions. We did order the heat pack and Grogel and everything, so I'm hoping for the best.

I ordered from Meyer (I'm also in Ohio though) Ordered 15 plus one 'bonus' and only lost one. Shipped Monday, arrived Tuesday. It's been in the 20s on average here.

We ordered 120, 100 fry pan 20 adopt me bargain. 39 dead in the box probably lost 25 more :( dropping like flies! We've been dosing weak chicks all day and even now (sugar water, electrolytes) loosing 2-3 an hour. The saddest was going through the box with the adopt me bargain:( 0 living and wanted every breed that was in it! Called Meyer and they are great btw She told me to wait and call back with a head count fri or mon and they would replace first thing monday... I checked the weather yuk! I am thankful for the healthy ones running around in all the brooders though first time using meyer and impressed with some of these chicks.

Hi, I feel the same way you do. I am in Virginia. I ordered 78 from the same hatchery with the same experience! They shipped on Monday & I got them Wednesday with over half of them dead and more dying each day! When I called they only will cover the dead ones. I wanted my whole order resent. I'm not very happy because I can't tell which ones didn't make it due to the fact I got quite a few different types of chicks. This was my first time ordering from them & maybe my last. For 20 years we ordered 500 chicks 4 times a year with very few problems. Nothing like this devastation!

Sorry for everyone's losses. It is hard at this time of year. Even with a heat pack you don't know what the PO is going to do. They could get stuck in a very cold area for a while, long enough to chill them. I've only ever ordered ducklings, always got chicks locally. My ducklings came from CA and shipped to FL in October a few years ago. I lost a few after arrival, don't know if it was shipping or newbie error. I'm considering ordering some chicks, need to decide on breed but I think I'll wait until March or April, just in case.

So sorry :(. I live in Ny. My 6 birds were shipped from Cackle in Missouri and they all made it okay. Shipped on Monday and got here wed. Packed up tight with a warmer and solid h20. We were having 30 degree weather.

Sorry for your loss. I got an early start and was very nervous but only lost two (1 duck 1 chick). However, they started their trip in 50 F Texas where they say overnight and then straight up to frigid -5 F South Dakota and too my post office. I think it also depends on what breed / type of poultry. I have heard of many people with Bantams and polish losing their orders..ducks seem to handle very well (the one I lost was "runty") All in all I recieved 10 packing peanut production reds.....3 LF Lt. Brahma..3 LF EE......3 cayuga ducklings. Good luck with your next try.
