Does anyone have a good bread recipe for a breadmaker? I have loaf pans and can bake in the over but my MIL gave me a breadmaker several years ago and I've only used it once with a box mix. It wasnt that great but I see myself being pulled to more self sufficient style of life. Any ideas or tips and of course recipes would be greatly appreciated.

You can use any bread recipe in the machine.

Just toss all the ingredients in & let it do the stirring & kneading for you.
Things like nuts & raisins can be added after most of the mixing is done & before the first rise - my machine has a bell to tell you when to add these things.
Check the cookbook that comes with to see how they are handled for your machine.

I have an old machine with the funky-shaped pan, so I don't let it bake the dough for me.
After the 2nd rise I pull the dough out & put it in regular pans, let rise again and then bake.

Thanks a lot for answering. I may still have the book. I want to say I have had this machine at least 8 years and only used it once.

Try this recipe:

It's a really easy, really good white bread recipe. It's my favorite. As a matter of fact, I now think I'm going to go make it!!!

Ok well I dont know if you have a short fat loaf or the skinny tall loaf one but I have the short fat. Here are two recipes that I use ALL the time. This is basic bread that I use, sometimes its a little dry but just try it and see. you could always add a tad more oil or use all white flour. I taped this to my breadmaker lol.
These go in the breadmaker in this order.

White Wheat bread
1 1/2 c warm water
2 TBS veg oil
3 c. white flour
1 c. wheat flour, fine grained
1 1/2 tsp salt
2 TBS sugar
2 1/2 tsp yeast

The water needs to be luke warm if its too hot the yeast wont activate correctly. I use the yeast at the store..just normal kind.
The next recipe I made myself using a partial bread one but its for Raisin bread. Again put them in the maker in the order of the recipe

Raisin Bread
1 1/2 c warm water
3 TBS oil
1 egg
4 c white flour
3 TBS ground cinnamon
1/4 c sugar
1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp yeast

Mine has a beep where you can add fruits or nuts... at this beep put in 1/3 c raisins. If yours doesnt have a beep.. once it first stirs together its stops for a while and then starts up again..add them then.

Every bread maker is different. YOu might have to tweak the ingredients to make a moister, higher rising loaf and even then when you finally think you have it right it changes for no reason lol. try looking up the brand of the breadmaker. My manual that I found online has lots of recipes in it. I can scan and email them to you if you cant find any manual for yours.

Thanks fr your help. I have a West Bend 1.5 lb loaf. I looked up the manual online and it had recipes but most of them called for dry milk and bread flour. I am assuming dry milk would be powdered milk but is there a difference between flour and bread flour?

I got my first bread machine at the start of the year and have been trying recipes and tweaking to our likes ever since. Here is the recipe we like best so far:

1 C milk
1 egg beaten in a 2/3 measuring cup - then fill the rest of the way with 1/2 & 1/2
4 1/4 C bread flour
4 T sugar
2 t salt
2 T Vital Wheat Gluten
2 1/2 T olive oil
2 t yeast - make a well in the flour and put it in there, make sure the salt is not touching it

everythng goes in in the order listed and it bakes on the basic cycle. I open the machine about half way throught the mixing cycle and push down any oil that is stuck to the sides.

That is the basic white bread we like, we make two different versions of it one we add 2 T toasted sesame seeds, and the other we add 1 T dried marjoram leaves.

Hope you try them we like it a lot.

Well I purchased all the ingredients that I need to get started. I am going to try the dry milk version first since it has explicit instructions on the manual. Wish me luck (tomorrow lol)
