Lately I've been cooking the same stuff over and over. I'm from southeast Louisiana so it's traditional Cajun and red-@$$ fare- soups, stews, gravies, gumbos, roasts, sauce piquant, etc.

However this weekend Id like to try something different. I like recipes that take a little work and have a little history, like all of my favorites. I don't like the the dump and cook crockpot Pinterest type of recipes.

Anyone have a great family recipe or local favorite that they'd like to suggest or share? I'm willing to trade one of the recipes listed above in exchange.

Thank y'all for any help!

You may want to check out the Any Home Bakers Here? thread.

Here's something neat to try, I love it served with traditional spatzles.

If you need the ingredients to make the spice mixtures just ping me, I have them and make this with nothing out of a jar

Cook these up and toss them in browned butter and keep them warm until the chicken is ready...

I've never had spatzels before. The recipe had me at dumplings. Do I need the spatzel maker?

No. You can run them through a colander or roll them and cut them. They are a pain but worth the effort. Here's a nice vid on how to... there are tons out there.

Thanks for sharing. I thought that thread was mostly about baked foods like breads, cakes, and baked desserts. I'll check it out too.
It may have started that way but the first post has a listing of many of the shared recipes including a Dinners and Vegetables section.

I've got all my ingredients EXCEPT sweet papaika. I can't find it anywhere around here. Will regular paprika just not work ☹️?
