Recommendations for an egg candler

Yes I know the two breeds , but there’s some reason it doesn’t work ,

Or am I thinking of sex links ?? Oh it’s late I’m going to bed

For all who are wondering. Batch one did not hatch. A friend of mine told me recently that the thunderstorms that occured the first week of incubation could have shocked them? Something about the current running through the incubator to zap them. That and apparently while I was at work we lost power twice. (via my brother)
However batch two is set to go into lockdown monday night. And thanks to eggcited4life i’ve been using the flashlight on my iPod to candle the eggs while waiting for my new candler to come. I actually got to see one of the little ones move around while i was candleing.

The whole shocking thing is hogwash IMO...

But power outages very heavily can impact hatch, depending on things like how long it was out, stage of development, and ambient temperature effecting the temp fluctuation.

That being said... if your gauges aren't calibrated... that will have the biggest impact of all.

Hope your next batch comes out strong! :fl:jumpy:jumpy

I figured it was. but the power being out twice in one week, much more likely. sometimes it takes two hours for power to be restored. FYI I've never incubated eggs before now. but maybe that's apparent. Thanks for the good wishes, I definitely need it.

One time power went out and after all day.. I called and come to find out I was the first of my neighbors to report it. Since that incident, if I am home... I report the outage immediately (because of the incubator, in addition to being without water from my well)... and usually get power restored within 15 minutes or so.

Since I can't do anything or even know about it if I'm not home... I am looking into and auto starting generator. Our power goes down pretty often. :barnie

The little ones should have hatched Thursday but didn't. One of them is still moving in the egg, the others all went bad. I could see dark patches in some of the eggs. Oh, the power went off, again. Second incubator hasn't been stable since the last power outage, and I have my incubators plugged into surge protectors. I have thermometers and hygrometers, I've been monitoring the eggs closely. I feel cursed or something.
