Recommendations for great place of the country to move to...

I like eastern Oklahoma. We are in the foot hills of the Ozark Mountians. We have Lake Tenkiller just 12 miles from our house

We love the northwest...Washington, Oregon and Idaho are all full of small to midsized communities which fit your description. We are a pretty laid-back bunch, too! Just look at all the chickens in Seattle and Portland....

give us a few more details. do you want to be near a city, or in a really remote area? because I live outside of pittsburgh, there are farms near me, quite a few people have chickens, we get all 4 seasons, but we are only about a half hour away from pittsburgh, slightly more if you want a lot of land, and the schools are very good. however, a lot of the land is wooded and hilly, and houses tend to be expensive, although every now and then there will be a really good deal.

I live in the Fox Chapel school district, the farms and stuff are mostly in fox chapel borough and indiana township (not county).

NE Ohio has all 4 seasons and I hate it. Summer is too short and winter is too long but if you like snow and cold, this is the place for you! There's plenty of farmland, suburbs, or city depending on your preferences and the people are friendly.

I vote for Western WA. Grew up primarily in New England, moved out here after college and marrying my college sweet heart.

I love how green it is here year round....The Evergreen State. Even in the dead of winter, it's not dull brown/gray like New England. We do have 4 seasons, but it is generally mild. However, last December we did end up with almost 30" of snow, which was record breaking. This summer we broke heat records as well...Global warming I guess.

It's not nearly as wet as everyone thinks it is. And even if it has been gloomy for a time, it makes you appreciate the beauty of the area when the sun comes out all the more. We have mountains, valleys, lakes, rivers, the ocean, all within and hour's drive. We live in Snohomish County. Can be pricey the closer you get to Seattle/Belleveu, but worth it in my opinion.

Kentucky has some lovely areas. I know another poster mentioned the western part. But there are gorgeous areas all over the state. Both Louisville and Lexington are decent sized cities if you want access to that occasionally. Depending on which region, you have mountains and rolling hills that are gorgeous. I'm in southern Indiana, and it's very similar...lots of family farms in my area, plus less than 30 minute drive if I want to hit the city. Land and housing are reasonable IMO, you can often get great deals on houses with land, especially the further you are from the city...

If you are from upstate New York, how about moving to Vermont or Maine? There are plenty of areas that are not touristy. If you want country, small town, and four seasons that is the way to go. I love New England, would not want to live anywhere else(except maybe in February.

Just wondering why all of you guys like the cold? I hated cold weather, maybe it was the wind/cold combo in MD. It rarely hits freezing here and I am thankful. Plus the high cost of keeping warm in the winter. We have a long fall, teeny weeny winter and long spring here in good ol' Ar. Maybe I'd like winter if I could ski??
