Recommended Hatcheries

My feed store uses ideal. My oldest laying hens from the feed store have always been healthy. I’ve had a set of Cornish from ideal that we’re nice.

I have had great experience with Meyer and My Pet Chicken as well, but I feel the birds were on the small side and laid small eggs at maturity.

I second the idea to use the closest to you. And also see exactly where they ship out of. They will tell you if you call so you can see if you can per chance get them quicker from a specific hatchery. For example Hoover trucks their birds to a specific hub across state lines to ship out and what I thought would be quick was a much longer transport than I expected.

For meat birds, I have had a beyond impeccable experience with Moyer.

Oh, also, call and talk to that closest hatchery and they will tell you what their best birds are. In general hatchery birds are lesser quality but a lot of the hatcheries are working to improve some stock and will typically tell you what that is.

I’ve only ordered shipped chicks once, just last week! I ordered from The Chick Hatchery and was very pleased, though I don’t yet know sex, long term health, etc. We had a broody silkie who’s eggs failed to hatch, so I was desperate for a small order of chicks that could be rushed fast as she’d lost a lot of weight from setting. I also wanted only Rispens Marek’s vaccinated chicks as we have a bad Marek’s strain. Finally, I was hoping for chicks of less usual breeds. I like doing everything online if possible, so that’s how I ordered etc. The Chick Hatchery had great customer service by email; they answered questions and sent the tracking number very promptly and competently. We ordered three Favorelles and three blue Ameraucana pullets. They sent an extra Favorelle. My post office let me pick up chicks at 3:30 AM when the truck arrived. Altogether, chicks only traveled about 36 hr and arrived in good shape, with a heat pack and green hydration goo that they had eaten. I’ve had a little bit of pasty butt, but it responded to water with electrolytes and probiotics, plus cleaning as needed. I’ve had them for five days now and they look healthy and vigorous.
I'm glad that I'm not the only one who has heard of the Chick Hatchery. I've ordered 15 chicks and they were supposed to ship out today; however I haven't gotten the "Chicks have shipped" email, did you get this or just a tracking number latter on? I'm just very nervous because this is my first time ordering online. I'm glad you had a positive time so far. Good luck with the chicks.

Hi Nebula, I was such a nervous Nellie that I emailed the Chick Hatchery the day that chicks were hatched to ask for my tracking No. They explained that they get shipped in the evening, and I’d get my tracking the next day, which is what happened. Chicks shipped Wed PM, tracking came by email Thursday mid morning, arrived at my post office at 3:30 AM Friday morning. Chicks are now two weeks old and still doing well.

That makes me feel way way better. I was actually considering emailing them to. Thanks for your help. I’m really happy that all your chicks are healthy!!

I ordered from murry mcmurray 2 times. Both times perfect transactions. They shipped when they said they would and myself and 3 members of my family were updated with text messages tracking the chicks. We knew the second they arrived. Also 25+ birds and every single chick arrived alive and well. Have not lost a single bird.

Also the sexing has so far been 100% spot on perfect.

However murry mcmurray does one thing i disagree with. They always add a few extra birds to your order which is nice i guess unless someone does not want them or have the means to raise them.

I think when it comes to live animals you should get exactly what you order. Adding extra chicks may not be in the plans of the person ordering them.

Other than that I think murry mcmurray is 5 star

In the end their was nothing to worry about!!!! I order fifteen chicks and got nineteen alive and happy. Fast shipping, and good prices. Plus rare breeds. I definitely recommend the Chick Hatchery!

Where are they located?

I got my first chicks and ducklings from our feed store. They order from Cackle Hatchery. I picked up two dozen guinea from them on Saturday. I just placed an order for 20 chicks this morning to ship to us. We will see how that goes. I hope the order is accurate and no swapping of breeds is done.

They only thing that is weird about the chick hatchery is their location. They seem to be in multiple places along the east coast ish area. Best of luck with the guineas. I hope everything goes well!!!
