One of my Black Stars recently died, after six years. Her pelvis was hurt when she was a chick, by my German Shepherd trying to be playful. Since the accident, she could not scratch the ground or walk without using her wings as crutches. Still, the brave, brave bird gave me a fresh egg each day for 4 1/2 years! Since she was sort of dependent on me, she bonded and came straight to me each time I called her.
Her sister is kind of neurotic. Sweet, but neurotic. I still don't know if it is sensitivity from being so roughly handled at the hatchery after birth, or if they are just naturally neurotic! Is skittish, runs away from hands, and is distrustful of hands.
They both gave mo more eggs than my family of 3 woud eat! Each gave me a fresh egg each day. Even during the winter.
But if you want a bird with a calm, trusting personality, I would not recommend a Black Star. Or maybe I just would not recommend getting a Black Star processed and shipped from a hatchery!
