Red chickens and white chickens

When I asked my dad if he knew what kind they were he shortly answered 'The kind that lay eggs!' so I guess he didn't even ask the guy they came from. Sounded like the guy was getting rid of his whole flock, 7 white, two red (sex-link I think) 9 in all. Not sure if they do lay eggs since the original two reds are the only ones laying, beginning to wonder if the newer hens are too old to lay eggs, no idea of the chickens' ages, and that's why the guy was getting rid of them... But give them more time, moving is stressful.

At least one hen looks like she has a white ear lobe so I'm thinking a possible mix of rocks and leghorns too.

Is that white or just some gunk on her ear lobe? Her comb is smaller than most of the other white chickens too.

At least one of the new chickens has started laying. The eggs seem smaller than what the two red sex-links were laying, and are a lighter brown. Was pretty sure the two new reds were the same as the original two red, still think they're sex-links but possibly different breeds in their backgrounds? White Rocks sound like they have bigger, darker eggs.... Or the eggs are coming out small and colored different because they're still getting used to the new place?

How small are the eggs? If the hens are young, you could be getting pullet eggs which are smaller.

Smaller than the red sex-linked eggs... I should get my camera and take more pictures I suppose.

No idea on how old the chickens are. My mother and I suspect that 9 of the chickens (all the whites and two of the red ones) were getting too old to lay and that's why the guy was getting rid of them (I don't even know if my dad paid for them) but we're new to chickens... Do they look like pullets just starting to lay or older hens?

They're all as big as the two red sex-links we started with if not bigger. Mom thinks they've gained weight since we got them.

Really wish my dad bothered to ask the guy anything about the chickens before getting them, or at least asked my Mom first. She was happy with just her two pet chickens and an egg or two a day. The extra 9 have been a stress on her, especially since they don't all seem to be laying and they eat more and need a much bigger coop. Everything I've read on getting chickens advised planning ahead, getting what you need first (housing, run, etc), studying the different breeds, etc. Bringing home 9 chickens and not knowing anything about them is a study on what NOT to do.
