Is this what everyone means by a chickens face turning red? She is 17 weeks. (Terrible picture, she kept turning) but comb is now red, face now has red and getting a wattle that is red as well

And here is one that looks like it's starting to

The older they get the redee it will get that's a sign of a healthy chicken is a nice red comb and not pale and they are getting plenty of daylight

@Frazzemrat1 I figured kind of young as I've heard 6-8 months typically. She wasn't upset, she had just gotten in the coop because it was their "bedtime" lol (8:30 every night)

@Jeremy Diehl they get sunlight until 12 when I let them out and when the sun starts to go down some. We live in Southern Texas and it's been 100+ for I don't even remember how long now lol. They spend the day under the house which is the coolest place to be outside (shade plus white base rock/sand mix)

I don't blame them for staying under the house it definitely being that hot I live in Wv and we think it's hot here .

@Ol Grey Mare good to know! Does that mean she could be an early layer? I'm sure it's not unheard of, but seems kind of early. Maybe I should put some fake eggs in the nesting boxes just in case?
I guess you could that would be up to you. All of my hens laid really good and I let them out and they quit laying inside except for a few I found a big clutch of eggs under the pine trees
