Red face?

As far as laying I really don't want to play egg hunt on 2.61 acres lol. My mother in law got two new hens, one about a year hatchery blue laced red Wyandotte, and an 8 month old EE that I'm assuming was sold as an Aricana. We got the 1 year old to lay in the coop just by her other one year old hen laying in there but the 8 month old we've looked practically everywhere even under her house where they spend their days as well and nothing. The lady they were bought from said that she doesn't lay every single day right now but every other day to every two days and she was pretty sure was an Olive egger. I'm thinking she sold the wrong one and that its younger than we are thinking.

I would say she probably did she doesn't look that big when she is ready she will start laying in the same way I'm not running all over looking for them. I like eggs but I enjoy having the chickens More. Mine would lay under the trees by water troughs in the dirt

Oh my pictures aren't the ones of my mother in laws but size wise she looks similar to the rest which are the same age as mine (17 weeks) maybe a little bigger.

This is a pretty red girl, and big and round, and she still isn't laying. Ive also seen some pullets that aren't real red, just pink, that are laying. Chickens are weird. Ive had a few that laid at 18 weeks and a few that waited till 6 months to lay!

@andreanar haha you aren't kidding, chickens are weird! I don't think she's ready to lay quite yet, I was more wondering if that is what everyone was talking about by red face lol. I was like "what in the world do they mean by that" and then I got a good look at her face last night and everything was turning red so I figured I would ask

Yes, she is starting to pink up, she will get redder and develop more flesh to her comb and wattles in the next couple of weeks.

Pullets can drive ya nuts going bright then paler again,
part of it is activity and increased blood flow.
When she's the bright red of an active layer, you'll then see....its hard to explain.

I live in south Texas and it's very hot right now, my hens and pullets faces, combs and wattles get very red and like aart says, it is because of the increased blood flow, they are trying to cool off.

@aldarita I live in Southern Texas as well. But she's the only one out of 9 her age that is that red (although one is a Roo)0. One is close. (4 are 17 weeks but one is the Roo , 5 are 16 weeks, then I have one 10 week old self blue Amaraucana and two 6-8 week old self blue Amaraucanas and one 1.5 yr old golden Laced Wyandotte
