red hen sick need help fast.. she might be dying..

Good luck.

You can feed boiled egg to them. An egg is a pile of proteins that hasn't even formed a chick. Many people regularly do it. Egg and a whole chicken are two way different things.

No I disagree, you never feed them their own, and an egg comes from a hen. Also, she is not moving around and not getting any grit or anything in her crop to help break up the food. I would give liquified (in a blender) food such as ground up grain, greens, meat, fish before I'd give egg (well I wouldn't). I mean why not? Meat is a much better protein than the egg and won't complicate the issue at all.

Meat is much harder for a sick chicken to digest. I would start out giving scrambled eggs, and then meat as she starts getting better. Also kefir or raw milk is a great natural healer.

and i looked in her mouth and the m ost disgusting yellow stuff is stuffed in there. i took tweazers and got a lot of it out not knowing if it was hen or tumor or rotten corn.. she let me..
i sucked it out with blue sucker thing that you suck snot from baby sorry im in a hurry cant think.
i got gobs of stuff out..and it gagged me.. sour smell then i remembered a saying i had read.. sour crop.. and i cant find a thing on it..

...the "gunk" you took out of her beak and that was blocking her throat... that is what I meant by "lesions" (this is not typical for sour crop > sourcrop will present with a gaseous crop... it could be that she also suffers from this but the desription in the quote above sounded so very much like typical trichomoniasis) Often when you remove the "gunk" it will leave a sensitive area after becoming detached (ergo the term "lesions"). Please read the article I posted )there is a photo);
Since you say there is no lesions/sensitive area after removing the "gunk" then it might also be candidiasis (a "yeast infection") as that is also associated with the smell you described and though it usually does not appear as you described it with "sour crop" the same organism is responsible for "Thrush" which will clog up the throat etc. (note the photo of the pigeon in the article below). Please note that the article states it can also be associated with parasiticism (which would include trichomoniasis) ...nystatin is the the common med to treat this organism however with the "gunk" and the possibility of trichonomiasis I am thinking that you should go with the copper sulfate treatment as this is also recommended for treating trichomoniasis (see second link):

(see candidiasis)
excerpt: "....Treatment in poultry may include use of aqueous solutions of gentian violet, and copper sulfate (flock) or nystatin (individual bird). Prevention is optimal...."

http://www.msstate.edu/dept/poultry/extsoln.htm
"....dissolve 1 oz copper sulfate and 1 tablespoon of vinegar into 15 gallons water.
Use either solution as the sole water source during the course of the disease outbreak....."

...or you can buy the acidified product (you would not need the vinegar then)

Thank you for your time and your kindness.
On a calmer note.... RedHen died in her sleep or rather in my sleep last night.
Overviewing the event: it began with her slowing down. She would walk around the pen and pick a little now and then. Was the last in at night and the last out of the hen house in the morning.
She began to look faded out. Feathers array and tosseled looking. White feathers sticking out from under the red top ones.
I looked in her mouth..too late Im sure, and found it full of yellow stuff, kinda like scrambled eggs and Im sure some corn that had been pecked up and stuck in it.
I rinsed it with an aspirator and used tweezers to clear it out. Im sure I was too over zealous with this step. I cringe
I tube fed her activia yogurt and added vegetable oil. got a watery bowel movement with some lumps in it.
all along the craw or crop was totally empty. the hen was light weight..very...
after the bowel movement I gave the egg yolk and olive oil and the crop became half full and stayed th at way. after 12 hours i held her upside down and the mixture came out her mouth just as it went in.
i massagad her crop ,
next a m she was dead. her head gear.. waddles i cant think of th e name for the red things on her head... they became very red.. very very red and around her mouth and under her ears.. the red stuff seemed to enlarge and turn red in places where i have nver seen red before.. it was pink and crusty when i first noticed she was not well.
it also had no tone to it. seemed to shrink. and pale pink or beinge in color.
oh well. now i worry about the others.. I have added appled cider vinegar to their drinking water. they seem to be fine.. but i do have an aviary of pigeons and doves just 50 feet away frm the chicken pen and house. th is particular hen had been prone to escapping and eating under the dove house. which is screen and poop and seeds are plentiful there.
oh me!

Sorry to hear about your hen A.J.S .I hope you will be able to prevent the same from the other chickens
