red in the comb at 2wks 5days? could it be a boy???

Photo update.... the chicks are 8 weeks old tomorrow. Here is Captain jack and one of the leghorn girls for comparison.

What a handsome roo! It's quite funny a bantam took charge, tiny but mighty

PHOTO UPDATE - Captain Jack is no longer the bantam's sole contender. Everyone got big enough to join the main coop and my 4 month old cockerel (Garfunkel) won't let the banties pick on anyone. Jacky boy is nine weeks old now, and (believe it or not) he mounted one of the leghorn girls!!! oy, vey.

My husband thinks Captain jack looks amazing and he's begging me to use him to make super-blues lol. If any of my easter eggers are blue layers, I may have make a few super blues.

Captain Jack certainly has a regal air about him - downright handsome. Is the little banty still able to hold his own? He was cute as the dickens.

Nobody fights because the rooster in charge won't allow it. The whole flock is actually sort of three or four little flocks all in one. The bantams all stick together, led by the General, and no one bothers them because no one wants to be scolded by Garfunkel (he's the number one rooster). Most of the 9 week old pullets stay close to Captain Jack, but some have created their own little pullet club. Some of the 18-19 week old girls stay close to Garfunkel all the time, but, again, a few have made a pullet club of their own. It is really something to watch them all interact.

Here you can see the General walking in his territory of the coop while a couple of the higher ranking hens chatter in the foreground.

In this picture, the General is completely unimpressed by Garfunkel's bravado. They were crowing back and forth for a few minutes and I happened to snap this shot just as Garfunkel flapped his wings. It sort of looks like The General is laughing at the much larger rooster. LOL

Here is the Colonel eating nearby the younger full size chickens. They are still scared of the banties LOL. Don't mind the food everywhere... my kids were feeling helpful that day.

HE CROWS!!! The white leghorn girls submit to him and he does "the deed" all at only 10 weeks old !! Could he be fertile at this age? The two girls that reproduce with him are also 10 weeks old, and their faces have gotten dark pink/almost red over the last week. Could they be early birds? or do you think they're just mimicking the birds that are 20 weeks?
