Red Laced Cornish X and project talk (pics p. 8)

The APA SOP calls for yellow to dusky yellow shanks on Blue Plymouth Rocks [the blacks aren't accepted yet, but would be the same I would think]. The sexlinked traits I mentioned on shank color would be on crosses of two different breeds or varieties with different colored shanks.

Thanks Steve, I should review some of the breed charts, which do you use and which is best? remember I am not great with genetics and prefer the layman's version.

So, what books would you guys suggest getting to understanding the crossing/dominance traits and so forth for figuring out what should work with what? I have seen people mention having a book that tells what traits do what for color and so forth. So, what is it and where can I get one?
Thanks in advance for sharing!

Just thought I'd mention a thread giving lessons to those of us who know nothing about chicken genetics and want to learn: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=7582416

It's
presented in a simplified manner and intended just to give basics. I'm enjoying it. I'm understanding it too! The books, etc. I've started to read on the subject have lost me within minutes with new information overload.

There is an old book but is very good on genetics called Genetics of the Fowl (?) by E. F. Hutt I think, it is very good and a semi-easy book but over my head in alot of the terminology. I did read it but it took a while.

I use the American Standard of Perfection 2010 to see what visual characteristics breeds are supposed to have. When I have a genetics question I Google it.

I do have some online texts saved to my Favorites and will post some links when I have more time. Galanie's link for Tim is an excellent one; his knowledge is more complete and information seems much more accurite than some others posting information here at BYC.

Thanks, guys.
I do have the SOP, but I see a lot of chat about different things having to do with color traits more than anything, and I just want to get my hands on something I can pick up and thumb through to get some more knowledge on what I am doing. It comes easy to me to look at a animal (livestock) and see what it needs if I have a standard to go on. But how the different traits run as far as dominant and recessive and homozygous and all that, I am not so well polished on.
I appreciate the help.
