Due to some sad circumstances to another BYC'er, I am now going to get some quality dark Cornish birds. Picking them up tomorrow. I will tell her that if her circumstances change, she can have them back (offer good till May). I get to keep hatching eggs! After May, they become mine. I think that's fair?!?!?!?

Happy New Year Everyone!

Fertile?

I believe so... Got another today... 3 out or 4 days isn't bad...

There should be a very apparent bullseye on the yolk if they're fertile, which you probably know. Their hatchery bred WLRC mothers were pretty good layers, usually laid 5 per week up untill they died when the the buffalo gnats hit them, but lacked the Cornish type and body. Of the chicks from them, sired by nice DCs, three had good Cornish type; but then those three died from heat. If you're looking to get that great, meaty body of quality Cornish, a cross back to the DC I gave you should put you on your way.

That's the thing, almost always the bullseye, I can see.. but on these, I didn't see it on top. thought I'd try turning the yolk over-- and there it was.. really small.... So, I'm thinking yes, even though I'm probably wrong.. They were unlike any other bullseye I've ever seen...

Sometimes I wonder if it's me. . .

When I was offered these dark Cornish, I asked is she had gotten them from a breeder, and she said yes. Today when they were delivered, I asked her which breeder, and she told "Murray McMurray!"

Oh well - they were free and they actually don't look too bad for Cornish, and very nice for a backyard type bird. I'll get some pics tomorrow if I can. They are in the basement "quarantine" cages right now. Also was impressed how gentle they are. They don't mind being picked up and held - she must have put some time in with them.
