Thanks Ron. My old computer has a program to edit pics, but have never figured out how to load it on this one. I'm going to save that last pic for my own use.

Hey guys! I haven't been around lately, was sick for 2 weeks and I think I forgot about this thread!

Anywho! What's been up over here; I scrapped my hatchery Cornish cross breeding program after most of the cornish either got wheezy or started to develop walking problems (arthritis?)

Got 14 Red Broilers to try those and see how they work out, they are 8 weeks old now, and I am picking out which breeders to keep. At 8 weeks old my cornish were upwards of 8 pounds. I think the red broilers are around 4 pounds, but they waddle and have HUGE legs so I think they will put on more of their weight at the end.... we'll see! Kinda disappointed they aren't bigger by now.

I think I am going to try every meat bird there is and then settle on breeding my favorite!

Glad you're feelin' better! Now that I've been unable to restrict the diets of my 4 CX pullets, they've gotten huge and one was showing signs of heart disease today; none of those 4 are laying. The cockeral has been active enough to actually have slimmed down after he started attempting to cover pullets this month; not sure yet if he actually got any fertile but suspect it's the two DC responcible for the present great fertility. I've got 3 dozen eggs in the bator from that pen; but I think they were gathered just before I started getting 100% fertility. [I sold about 8 doz. as eating eggs, then checked the last dozen this weekend and found 100% fertiles.] The other 6 eggs in the bator are Lavender Orps. My neighbor came to look at my flock awhile back and ordered 5 doz, Ameraucana over SS and BLRW eggs, and 2 1/2 doz from my DC over Ameraucana and EE; all to set today or tomorrow. I'm kinda jealous he can hatch more of my eggs than I can.

corrected typo on count of eggs ordered by neighbor

For those of you wanting to get in on the "develope your own meat breed" this is a great way to piggyback on the work someone else has started and already put years into. Not to mention this is a awesome start to a pure cornish flock.

Possibly............................ I intend to cut numbers drasticly in April to make room for new ones; the WLRC will be among those going to a swap or freezer camp, so............................

My neighbor tells me the nearby Amish process for $1.25 per bird , bagged and ready for freezer camp....................... if that figure is correct, I'm done doing my own

They're lookin' good Katy. I've got a black tailed red chick that's huge; so far very breasty with shanks like tree trunks.

He may be adding his genetics to my flock this fall.
