Thanks for the tips AL. I'm familiar with Calf Manna and its available almost anywhere. Red wheat, on the other hand, may not be sold around here anywhere. I'll look for some wheat germ oil, it sure worked wonders on our 20 + year old stallion back in the day.

Hi AL,
By throwbacks I mean a few chicks reverting back to an undesirable trait such as leg or foot problems since the genes are in there somewhere. Obviously they would be sent to freezer camp as soon as you recognized the fault.

The only thing I had happen that I didn't like was I had 1 chick out of 30 hatched that came out barred, recesive from the white rock stock used. Some came out with 1 or 2 slight tick marks but that was fine, and every now and then some birds with a little too much feather for what I am liking. Other than those minor deviations all was pretty uniform, Oh and sometimes they lay too many dbl yokers which is a problem come hatch time.

You've been gone longer in the past, so I figured you were just busy again.
I've started my tractor / breeding pen........................ miscalculated and had to go for more supplies today...................... and was sidetracked by stopping to see the white chick hatched from eggs I sold the neighbor. Its a white pullet with a red head, green shanks, muffs, and pea comb. He says it's from a SS or BLRW egg which were under a splash Ameraucana roo with red bleed. Now his second hatch is here, and there are 4 or 5 more, ranging from white to what are starting to look to be white laced red or jubilee; and again he claims from the same eggs, that nothing but tan eggs from my SS and BLRWs hatched.

They're only starting to feather, and down color is yellow to yellow with orange stripes and head patterning. I just don't see how a blue splash can throw white and white with red patterned off these hens. Plus they appear a little larger and heavier than their siblings, but not by much.
